About you:

This specialist post in the Place Directorate provides a rich experience, based around placements that will engage you in work that is core to GMCA’s priorities. As a Graduate Management Trainee you will support the delivery of services by the Land and Property function and be responsible for designated work programmes during the placement.

As part of the Place Directorate, this post will support the provision of professional estate and asset management advice relating to the Combined Authority’s operational and non-operational land and property assets, as well supporting the delivery of Greater Manchester’s objectives to drive the more effective use of the public estate across GM in support of economic growth, housing, employment and a reformed public estate.

The function provides capacity to move the city region’s approach to land and property forward; to support delivery of the strategic governance framework capable of driving this agenda while ensuring appropriate accountability; and; support delivery of approved One Public Estate and Place development projects across Greater Manchester. These include a number of integrated public service health and social care hubs and town centre regeneration projects.

Purpose of the Graduate Management Trainee Programme

· To attract high performance, enthusiastic graduates who have the skills needed to succeed in senior management at GMCA.

· To offer a series of placements and projects, along with a learning and development programme with national and locally delivered elements that will provide a grounding in key aspects of local government.

· To encourage graduates to make a long-term commitment to working for the GMCA.


You will hold a 2.1 Degree in Estate and Asset Management or an equivalent qualification from a Greater Manchester educational institution or hold this or an equivalent qualification from another institution and be resident within Greater Manchester boundary (the local authority areas of Bolton, Bury, Manchester, Oldham, Rochdale, Salford, Stockport, Tameside, Trafford and Wigan).

Training and Development

Over the two years of the programme you will be supported to take part in a range of Learning and Development opportunities which will contribute to meeting the needs of the authority, our local community and the region.

On successful completion of the two-year programme, you will be offered a post with the GMCA.
