Resourcery Group are working in partnership with a manufacturing/FMCG business in the Merseyside area to recruit a Commercial Controller. As Commercial Controller you will be a senior finance business partner to a broad range of senior non-finance stakeholders especially in Sales, Marketing and Commercial teams. The business is a PE-backed manufacturer going through a period of rapid change. After several years of malaise, the business is now moving forward at pace and the Commercial Controller will play a key role in setting the tempo of change, driving Sales and Commercial teams to achieve better performance through higher margins and an improved top line. Working with the Head of Finance and CFO, you will play a central role in defining the strategy to drive top and bottom line growth. This is a sales-focused role and the Commercial Controller will be responsible for several areas/objectives including:

• Create a series of processes to ensure all pricing, tenders and trade spend proposals are approved at agreed levels or escalated where appropriate

• Establish an awareness and understanding of customer account profitability within the sales team

• Set up a system for monitoring and regular review of customer profitability.

• Develop a process to ensure all contractual Trade Spend are approved through pre-assessment and close monthly review process.

• Set up monthly reviews of Trade Spend with the sales team to ensure all accruals are accurately managed

• Manage the Demand Planning & Forecasting system, working with the sales team, updating as appropriate and running all associated processes to ensure a robust forecast is provided to the business

• Create and manage the input from the sales team to deliver a Sales Budget, comprising volume, value and trade spend.

• To maximise use of Business Information through current systems such as Targit, Navision etc to provide insightful analysis

The Commercial Controller is required to support and drive commercial decisions including contract tender and pricing reviews, cost management / improvement initiatives and fostering greater awareness and ownership of business performance and risk management. You will be responsible for monitoring customer pricing, contracts and agreements in line with pre-agreed commercial margin requirements, conduciting monthly reviews and providing analysis of customer and product profitability, making recommendations as appropriate to develop margin enhancement. You will also be required to maintain and operate the Demand Planning and Forecasting system and hold monthly Forecast Review meetings with all Account Managers to ensure all sales forecasts are accurate. the Commercial Controller is also responsible for the annual budgets, forecasts and business plans, the insightful analysis of variances, trends and issues and the development and implementation of KPI dashboards.

This is an expansive commercial finance role in a changing business that requires a qualified accountant capable of driving business performance improvement through strong hands-on analysis and cross-functional stakeholder engagement.

Applicants will be

  • Qualified accountatn (ACA, ACCA, CIMA)
  • Possess extensive commercial finance experience and be an accomplished 'hands-on' analyst and business partner
  • Have experience of driving margin and revenue improvements in a change environment
  • Possess exceptional communication skills, a deep understanding of the commercial market place, and have the capacity to work successfully under pressure and to tight deadlines
