Job Title Landscape Gardener /Grounds maintenance operative


Main Purpose Carry out landscape gardening and ground maintenance operations.


Place of work Various locations through out the North East and Yorkshire


Base Consett, Co. Durham


Start Date of employmentWill be agreed on appointment (
the first 3 months of employment will be a probationary period.)

Rate of pay Negotiable between £12 to £13 per hour depending on experience.


Hours of work Mon - Fri,
, 45 hour week ( minimum number of average hours expected to work.) However, some flexibility will be required.

Overtime from Mon - Fri will be paid at normal rate of pay; Saturday, Sunday and Bank holidays, at a rate of time and a half.

Holiday Entitlement You are entitled to 29 days paid holiday leave per annum. This includes public holidays. You may occasionally be required to work public holidays.

(You will be unable to take leave during seasonal busy periods).


Duties and responsibilities (the listed below may not include all the tasks which are expected to be carried out)

Duties involve driving a vehicle; therefore
you must at all times hold a current UK full driving licence. Employer must be informed immediately of any summonses, convictions or driving related offences. Drive to and from base to various locations throughout the north east of England. Load and unload equipment safely.

Be able to perform all grounds maintenance and landscaping activities including, but not limited to

• Lawn maintenance

- operating standard lawn maintenance equipment: ride on/ walk behind mowers, strimmers etc.

Soft landscaping duties
- ground preparation, planting, seeding and laying of turf.

Hedge, shrub bed, flower bed maintenance and associate tasks, using mechanical and hand tools.

Litter collection, site clearance, weeding, leaf clearance, hard standing cleaning.

Carry out general maintenance and repair of ground maintenance equipment, under supervision.

Carry out duties following safe practice and procedures.

To undertake other duties as directed by the employer, appropriate to the level or responsibility and qualifications of the post.

All workers Minimum Qualifications / competencies:
Complete ROLO Health and safety awareness course for land-based operatives.

Hold valid CSCS card.

Hold valid PA1 PA6 safe use of pesticides certificate

(If you do not currently hold the certificates listed above you must be willing to undertake and obtain certification as they are essential to the post. All training will be paid for by employer.)


Skill, ability and knowledge of methods used in grounds maintenance and landscape gardening operations and associated tasks.
Must have at least 3 years experience in this line of work; be competent and experienced in the use of all equipment as necessary to carry out duties.

Demonstrate capabilities of using own initiative; maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with those you will come into contact with on a daily basis.

You will be expected to demonstrate good organisational and communication skills follow oral and/or written instructions.

Adherence to good health and safety practices and compliance with applicable health and safety regulations at all times.

Be conscientious, capable of working in a fast paced, physically demanding environment, well presented and carry out duties to a high standard.

Willingness to work outside (if necessary) in inclement weather.
