The Specialist Psychological Therapy Services lies within the Wigan & Leigh Borough, which is provided by Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Trust.

The Trust provides specialist services for people with Mental Health needs, Learning Disabilities and Autism, together with a range of other specialist services.

The population served in the Wigan & Leigh Borough is approximately 308,000.


The Specialist Psychological Therapy Service (SPTS) is well established team of Clinical Psychologists, Advanced Practitioner, Assistant Psychologists with a Consultant Psychologist leading working across the Borough into multi-agencies services.

The Service provides three dynamic clinical pathways in the areas of Chronic Pain, Autism Diagnostic and Learning Disabilities.

A vacancy has arisen for an Advanced Practitioner within the Autism Diagnostic Pathway.


The post holder will be responsible for carrying out diagnostic assessments and recognition of people referred to the Autism Diagnostic pathway.

To support recently diagnosed autistic adults in offering post-diagnostic support, which will include delivering training to autistic people, their families and other members of the system

Responsible for the autonomous provision of a Borough wide service, for a clinical specialism to be agreed in conjunction with the Consultant Clinical Psychologist/Clinical Manager


Provides clinical supervision and support to more junior registered/unregistered staff, those in training and other clinical members of the teams who provide post-diagnostic care and interventions.
