Role summary:


The Visitor Services Supervisor leads and supervises a team of Visitor Assistants (includes both permanent and casual staff) who are responsible for delivering an excellent experience for all visitors and building users, whilst ensuring the highest standards of security and operational effectiveness for the building and its contents.

As Visitor Services Supervisor, you will enhance the visitor experience, contributing to creating and delivering a safe, welcoming and friendly environment for all.

You will continuously develop your knowledge of the Barber's collection, exhibitions and public programme and communicate this to colleagues and visitors with enthusiasm.


You will work effectively cross-team with a second Visitor Services Supervisor to ensure consistent standards and working practices are maintained, promoted, and developed across the whole Visitor Services Team.

You will possess the ability to plan and use resources effectively, along with a suite of excellent communication skills, which will be essential in this interface role.

You will be required to communicate with your team, your Visitor Services Supervisor counterpart, the Visitor Services Manager and wider Barber colleagues in a timely, accurate, efficient and appropriate way, whilst also delivering excellent communication to our visitors and building users.


Working within the current shift pattern, which includes working weekends, University of Birmingham closed days and bank holidays is a pre-requisite for the role.


Main Duties:


Supervisor:


  • Support the Visitor Services Manager in the daily management of Front of House operations
  • Implement and supervise an effective daily roster of Visitor Assistants and Casual Visitor Assistants with effective forward planning.
  • Effectively address unplanned and short notice staffing shortfalls or issues in a timely, calm and efficient manner.
  • Deliver effective and engaging daily team briefings for the team.
  • Schedule, organise and chair efficient and purposeful monthly team meetings, preparing a fit for purpose meeting agenda.
  • Ensure all information is relayed to the team in an accurate, appropriate and timely manner
  • Lead by example when working 'on the floor' alongside colleagues, covering breaks, absences and any other rota gaps as required.
  • Proactively and positively address, where appropriate, the performance of your team and individual team members by communicating constructive feedback and guidance
  • Conduct constructive one to one meetings with the team to document progress, add
