As a member of the Clinical Trials Pharmacy team, you will work closely with other members of the team to ensure that Christie patients have access the latest developments in oncology/haematology investigational medicines.

The Pharmacy Department are also supporting the large-scale collaborative project alongside several research partners and have strong links with the University of Manchester.


  • Support all aspects of pharmacy requirements for handling medicinal products within the context of a clinical trial (dispensing, drug accountability, administration, storage, disposal of medicinal products and attending to monitoring visits.).
  • Provide support to the clinical trials lead technician to ensure activities within the pharmacy department are managed in accordance with the International Conference of Harmonisation Good Clinical Practice Guidelines (ICH-GCP), Good manufacturing Practice (GMP), the Research Governance Framework for Health & Community Care and the Medicines for Human Use (Clinical Trials) Regulations 200
  • Support the clinical trials lead technician and clinical trials pharmacist with internal, external audits and regulatory inspections by the Medicines and Health Regulatory Authority (MHRA) within pharmacy.
  • To support the dispensing of clinical trials in the Oak Road Clinical Trials Dispensary
We are seeking an enthusiastic, committed, and adaptable individual to join our team.

You should be educated to NVQ Level 3 in Pharmacy Service or NVQ Level 2 with equivalent experience of working within clinical trials.

Duties and Responsibilities include:


  • To maintain patient records via the JAC computer system to ensure information is accurate and up to date for future reference and complies with the Data Protection Act.
  • To provide dispensing services to the Trust, ensuring that prescriptions have been screened, entered onto the computer system, dispensed, and labelled following departmental standard operating procedures, including clinical trial material and oral chemotherapy.
  • To understand the legal requirements for controlled drugs with respect to receipt, storage, and dispensing.
  • Active involvement in the taking in and handing out of prescriptions to patients, following departmental guidelines.
  • Counsel patients and carers to ensure the patient's understanding of their medication is correct and that they are aware of any side effects to promote patient compliance.
  • Support all aspects of pharmacy requirements for medicinal products within the context of a clinical trial (handling, dispensing, drug accountability, administration, storage, disposal of medicinal products and attending to monitoring visits).
