Join the small team at RISE Learning Zone CIC as a full-time educator with responsibility for delivering PSHE courses to key stage three & four learners in an specialist alternative provision environment.
This post may be split as a job-share or offered as a full-time position.
Working with teenagers managing a range of traumatic histories and chaotic home lives who are unable to cope with mainstream school, RISE is focused on the emotional literacy of learners first and foremost, providing a nurturing environment in which to learn and grow.
We are looking for flexible, creative and positive tutors who can empathise with the challenges our young people face in their daily lives, and contribute to their education in a caring and supportive way.
This role also includes being the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) for the organisation. We all have a responsibility to keep children safe. The DSL has additional responsibilities in ensuring the safety and wellbeing of the children and young people at Rise.The DSL is the point of contact for anyone in an organisation who is concerned about a child.
The role is also responsible for leading on:
- safeguarding policies and procedures
- training and development
- receiving concerns about a child
- reporting, storing and retaining child protection records following the organisation's policies and procedures.
Responsibilities
- Tuition to small groups (15 learners) at key stage 3/4, in informal settings
- Tuition at basic entry levels up to Level 1 and potentially higher
- 7.5 hours per day, flexible timetable
- Generally lowability learners with complex emotional issues & behavioural challenges
Work Experience
- ESSENTIAL: Tutoring/teaching in alternative provisions, PRUs, special schools
- Experience of KS3 & 4 curriculum & qualifications (NCFE preferred)
- Teaching in small groups of 25 learners and 1:1 tuition
Education
- Teaching qualification (eg. PGCE, Award/Cert/Dip E&T, P/C/DTTLS etc)
- Educated to degree level
Skills
- Understanding of teaching, learning and qualifications
- ESSENTIAL: Experience of working in non mainstream settings with challenging learners
- Basic understanding of working with young people managing infant & childhood trauma
- Ability to empathise and support the development of emotional literacy
- Robust understanding of safeguarding procedures
- Ability to work as part of a small team
Job Types:

Pay:
£18.45 per hour
Expected hours: 37.5 per week
