Purpose of the job:


  • To work with Business Improvement on key compliance and sustainability projects
  • To work with relevant external bodies and internal stakeholders to build compliance expertise, in line with best practice in the furniture industry
  • To develop rapidly with a requirement to become Bisley's goto compliance resource
  • To gradually ensure Bisley is aware of, achieves, and maintains the latest accreditations
  • To develop the ability to provide training and ongoing assistance to all business functions, where required, and to be Bisley's representative with accrediting organisations
  • To support the Product Management team in ensuring new and existing products comply with required standards, providing advice on new product development, in the UK and internationally
  • To work on energy and carbon reduction initiatives, in support of Bisley's sustainability targets

Specific responsibilities:


Learning and development:
Work with Business Improvement to identify appropriate external training and development. Organise mentor/training meetings with relevant internal stakeholders


Standards expertise:

Develop intimate knowledge of the standards and requirements that impact Bisley, to ensure they can speak with authority about them, and provide technical or sales support where necessary.

This will include eventually representing Bisley on appropriate councils and sharing information on compliance to assist with sales exercises and tender submissions.


External audit:
Work with Business Improvement to organise all elements of external audit.

Develop the ability to prepare the organisation prior to audit, to comply with standards in order to meet the requirements, and conduct all post-audit activities to complete the accreditation process.


Information management:
Responsible for accuracy and availability of records concerning compliance. Undertake appropriate training to enable creation of clear, written policies and procedures related to compliance. Prepare management reports regarding compliance operations and progress.


Training:

Once expertise has been developed, to ensure compliance is upheld, conduct necessary training across the various business functions affected by standards and regulations.

Ensure training records are organised and monitored.


Product compliance:

Work with the Product Management team, design team, and suppliers to ensure new and existing products comply with relevant legislation.

Ensure compliance is a key factor in the development of new products and identify any compliance gaps in our existing product range.


EPD's, Product Environmental Datasheets and Health Product Declarations: Working with outside agencies and gathering required data to facilitate publishing and verification of Environmental Product Declarations. Producing and publishing of Product Environmental Datasheets and Health Product Declarations.


Sustainability:
Work with Business Improvement on initiatives to reduce Bisley's carbon footprint and environmental impact. Investigate alternative energy sources and identify opportunities for improvement. Assist Business Improvement in implementing sustainability projects, processes, and procedures.


Tender support:
Provide support to sales teams during tender activities and assist with technical and compliance related questions.


Personal development:
Develop and maintain a Personal Development Plan with support from a Line Manager. Jointly identify personal and professional development areas and agree mechanisms to allow positive progress e.g. professional training courses, further education etc.


Education and experience:


Essential:


  • 13 years' experience in business
  • Educated to HNC, HND or degree level
  • Experience in the manufacturing sector
  • Experience in a role that involves compliance and/or sustainability

Competencies:


  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Able to write English clearly and concisely
  • Able to work within multidisciplinary teams on compliance and sustainability
  • Committed to continuous professional dev
