We are seeking enthusiastic, driven Emergency Care Technicians with excellent clinical and communication skills to join the Medical Same Day Emergency Care Unit ( MSDEC ) at SWBH NHST Trust.


Training towards this Healthcare Support Worker level 3 qualification will be provided in house by the Apprenticeship team, with allowed time for the "off the job training" each week.

The apprenticeship will generally take up to 21 months to complete, including end point assessment.

Entry requirements:
Apprentices will need to achieve English and Maths Level 2 prior to completion of their Apprenticeship.


This could be a development opportunity and you will be paid Band 2 during the apprenticeship programme and on successful completion and meeting the necessary work standard, this role will move to NHS Agenda for Change Band 3.


The MSDEC department, this is an acute area currently based across our 2 existing sites, which aims to provide specialised acute service to treat those with varying medical conditions, enabling a significant number of our patients who require emergency care to be managed safely the same day and without the need to admit into hospital.

CLINICAL SUPPORT:


  • To undertake specific skills to include amongst others; cannulation,
phlebotomy, collection of blood cultures, electrocardiogram (ECG),
bladder scanning, urinary catheterisation, arterial blood gas sampling and
removal of peripheral venous cannulae.

  • At the instruction of Medicals or Registered Nursing staff, request test and investigations via the appropriate channels.
  • Support professionals with clinical activities by preparing the patients,
offering support to the patient and professionals and assisting to recover
from specific procedures.

  • To re-stock end of trolleys in the resuscitation area following trauma alerts to allow Registered Nursing to continue clinical care.
  • Assist medical and registered nursing staff in administrative duties
including data entry and use of IT systems.

  • Contribute to the maintenance of the safety and security of individuals and their environment, reporting to the nurse in charge any concerns and take appropriate action.
  • Follow appropriate training and update training as deemed necessary to achieve and maintain competence in clinical skills.
