Financial Controller/Director | Burton-on-Trent |Engineering/Manufacturing | £55,000 - £65,000


Macildowie are currently working with a long standing, independently owned
, manufacturing businesses who are now seeking to recruit a high caliber
Financial Controller/Directorto join their team.

The role reports to the Managing Director.


The title here isn't really that important, what you actually do is. This isn't a sit back and manage a team sort of FC/FD role. This is a hands on, very involved number 1 in finance. There is only a small team and you will be exposed to all elementsand will be okay with a fairly demanding owner managed business environment.

So, what is the role?

  • Managing the day to day running of a
    small finance team; including appraisals, training, and recruitment
  • Preparation of
    year end Accounts and assisting the auditors with the yearend financial audits
  • Management of company
    cash flow:
  • Preparation of
    manufacturing variances:
  • Full responsibility for the production
    of monthly management account packs, management information, cashflow, balance sheet and P&L reporting to the board:
  • Working closely with the MD to
    develop internal reporting standards and controls
  • Focus will be on
    Management Information, introduction of appropriate
    KPI's,
    Financial forecasting,
    budgeting, and especially management of
    short / medium term cash flows:
  • You will be a confident and self driven accountant, driving individual performance and continual improvement
  • As well as this, you will be
    great with systems, you'll be able to identify
    ERP system improvements that can help to refine financial processes, whilst also making sure that the
    integrityof that information is correct
  • Whilst generating the information is important, so is what you use it for You will be someone who provides timely and accurate financial information to drive business outcomes and
    changes in behavior across all levels of the group leadership team

So, who are you?

  • You will ideally have hand on,
    SME accounting experience:
  • Ideally you'll have an understanding of
    manufacturing and Contract Accounting:
  • You will need to hold a professional Accounting qualification.

(ACMA/ACCA/ACA):


  • You'll be used to working in a
    fastpaced business and you will thrive on making improvements to processes.
  • You'll be solutions focused and see opportunity rather than issues
  • Experience of working through difficult situations and improving business capability
