Logistics People are currently recruiting a Transport Operator to join our Team in Lutterworth, based at our Fowler Welch site.
Job Purpose:
Manage the daily execution of the plan for company and/or third party resources, within budgetary and legal constraints.
Effectively managing vehicle utilisation and ensuring drivers are given clear and precise information and instructions.
Controllingthe de-brief process for the drivers on return to site and communicating any operational impacts to other team members.
Main Responsibilities:
The role-holder will be required to be responsible for and undertake the following tasks.
- Ensuring that all elements of the job are effectively communicated to drivers and subcontractors.
- Follow the daily plan to ensure the effective utilisation of drivers, vehicles, subcontractors and agencies.
- Ensuring that subcontractors are used cost effectively.
- Accurately brief and debrief drivers at the beginning and end of their shifts, including ensuring defects are reported and that all drivers download their digicards.
- POD management.
- Ensuring that ESP is up to date with any changes that occur during the shift.
- Tallying external customer pallets with a supplier manifest and ESP.
- Ensure all vehicles are tracked and DOT is recorded accurately and in a timely manner.
- Create and manage ASN's for customers where required.
- Ensure that all drivers are working within a safe environment and follow driver hours' regulations.
- Liaising with planning team to optimise fleet/driver utilisation, identifying and resolving problems affecting delivery on time.
- Close liaison with other operators and supervisors to discuss efficiencies and agreed operational practices.
- Assist in the control of drivers' equipment, ensuring that customer requirements are met and recorded.
- Supporting investigations into accidents or issues of driver performance and raising with Supervisors and HR to ensure they are dealt with efficiently and consistently.
- Optimise the timely return of vehicles.
- Support and cover members of the Team, including the Supervisors' tasks as required within their capability.
- Undertake additional tasks/duties as may be required by Management.

Qualifications Required:
Essential
Educated to GCSE level or equivalent
Desirable
Educated to A Level standard or equivalent
Experience Required:
Essential
Experience of managing own workload within a pressurised environment
Demonstrable capability of dealing with conflicting priorities.
Strong written and verbal communication skills that have been used to support a customer focused operation
Desirable
Experience of working within a distribution / transport environment
Knowledge Required:
Essential
A sound understanding of vehicle planning within a transport environment or similar
Sound geographical knowledge
Basic understanding of driver's hours regulations/Tachograph law
Proficient in Word and Excel
Desirable
Basic fridge operation knowledge - Start / Stop / change temperatures / clear faults.
Basic knowledge of Driver Hours Regulations
