Although this position is an individual contributor role, the SME responsibilities will include working across out global network of sites.

You will be a key part of the MSAT Small Molecule platform team, partnering with senior leaders across the wider GSK organisation, namely R&D, Strategy, Quality, Engineering and Manufacturing Supply Chain.

In this role you will:


  • Hold accountability for small molecule oral solid dose unit operation knowledge and capability building within MSAT ensuring effective knowledge and capability build materials and systems are in place that can be used across the wider manufacturing network.
  • Be the single point of accountability across MSAT for small molecule oral solid dose unit operations knowledge and expertise, providing coaching and guidance to local MSAT teams.
  • Lead the development and industrialisation of small molecule oral solid dose unit operation changes / advancements whether new or adaptation of existing technologies, working across the enterprise to meet the needs of the evolving new product portfolio and to achieve lifecycle improvement plans.
  • Own the development and continual build of the MSAT oral solid dose unit operation knowledge and expertise. Ensure current learnings and best practice are captured and shared across the wider manufacturing network.
  • Drive the oral solid dose unit operation digital models as a standard practise and approach build capability and selfsufficiency across the local MSAT teams where this is practical.
  • Support the Small Molecule network by working closely with Site MSAT teams and external partners on the resolution of issues pertaining to small molecule technology platforms / dose form unit operations.
  • Establish and lead a defined oral solid dose community across the MSAT teams to drive improvement in capability build within the MSAT Small Molecule team & network, utilising this as a mechanism to share best practice and ensure current standards and expectations are in place.
  • Maintain an active network with partners across other business areas such as R&D, Strategy and Engineering, to stay current in knowledge and understanding.
  • Be conversant with statutory obligations, and GSK procedures for all regulatory requirements in discipline area; ensure GSK corporate governance is upheld.

Basic Qualifications & Skills:


We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:

  • BSc, MSc or PhD in a related scientific discipline such as chemical engineering, chemistry, pharmacy, or pharmaceutical engineering.
  • Significant industry experience in a scientific, biochemical, chemical, or pharmaceutical manufacturing environment, including process development, product development, scaleup or operations.
  • Experience leading technical teams across multiple geographical areas.
  • Prior experience of small molecule oral solid dosage manufacturing unit operations and tablet processing, with demonstrable expertise in oral solid dose manufacturing and working knowledge of the scientific theory behind OSD unit operations.
  • Previous experience of scaleup, technical transfer and process change management / improvement, with knowledge in current Good Manufacturing Practices and US/EU/ROW regulations.
  • Extensive experience in structured technical troubleshooting, RCA and CAPA effectiveness.

  • Higher level education (eg. PhD) or other Chartered / Professional Qualification in a relevant discipline
  • Excellent management, communication and interpersonal skills, with comfort cooperating with individuals internally and externally at all organisational levels.
  • Experience setting goals and driving results, defining priorities, managing and influencing individual and team performance.
  • Ability to work independently and follow through on assignments and delivery of the GSK GCS strategy without direction.
  • Background and experience in leading platform / technology / manufacturing teams leading and managing groups with specialist expertise.
  • Experience identifying and resolving problems.
  • Ability to effectively present information and ideas formally and informally, verbally and in writing to others in a man
