The post will initially support attendance and safeguarding at River Tees Secondary, River Tees Hospital and River Tees Primary.


Main Responsibilities

  • Build strong professional relationships with our families, pupils and agencies.
  • To implement the RTMAT child protection policy and procedures.
  • Encourage good practice by promoting the child protection policy and procedures.
  • Respond appropriately to disclosures or concerns which relate to the wellbeing of a child with appropriate actions and record with impact.
  • To maintain accurate, confidential and uptodate documentation on all cases of safeguarding and child protection and report where required.
  • Take direct action to improve attendance identifying barriers and providing suitable solutions.
  • To work directly with children in need and their families in the community in order to promote, strengthen and develop the potential of parents/carers and their children in order to prevent children becoming looked after and/or suffering significant harm.
  • To initiate and refer pupils to outside agencies and coordinate referrals.
  • To liaise with school staff in initiating multiagency referrals for pupils.
  • When appropriate, to act as lead professional and coordinate Team Around the Child meetings
  • To support the care of children where their living arrangements are at risk of breakdown
  • To ensure that vulnerable pupils who are victims of abuse are supported appropriately and sensitively and that all actions assigned to RTMAT from planning and interventions meetings are successfully carried out and monitored
  • To collate and produce statistical information with regards to safeguarding, attendance and pupil groups.
  • To work with identified pupil premium group pupils and their families to narrow the attainment gap.
  • To plan and assist on safeguarding and attendance training within school.
  • Take immediate recorded action for initial absence, 3 day and 10 day.
  • To compile reports in line with legal processes for attendance.
  • To identify areas for development in attendance processes and develop an action plan to implement improvements.
  • Analyse attendance, safeguarding data and trends to inform actions and produce reports for a variety of purposes.
  • Work in partnership with transport team to improve attendance.

Accountabilities

  • Where necessary, attend and participate in Child Protection Conferences and Planning and Review meetings whilst working closely with colleague's in Children's Services as required, some of which may take place out of normal working hours.
  • In partnership with the Safeguarding Team, plan and complete professional assessments of need and risk in respect of parents and carers using the Local Authority procedures for children in need and significant harm. Assisting to coordinate the multiagency approach to prevent and address child protection issues and children in need within RTMAT.
  • To maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • To liaise and coordinate with colleagues and outside organisations regarding the Common Assessment Framework and to coordinate and monitor all referrals and recommendations with the Trust.
  • To adhere to RTMAT policies as outlined in the staff handbook.
  • Ensure that all attendance and safeguarding data is complete, accurate and made available in appropriate formats and reports for all staff.

General Responsibilities

  • To complete the necessary training to be effective in the role appointed to. This should commence within 3months of appointment.
  • To remain aware of and adhere to the school's child protection policy and procedures.
  • To be aware and to adhere to applicable rules, regulations, legislation and procedures e.g. School Equal Opportunities policy/Code of Conduct), national legislation (Health and Safety, Data Protection).
  • To maintain confidentiality of information acquired in the course of undertaking duties for the School.
  • To be responsible for your own continuing selfdevelopment, undertaking training as appropriate.
  • To undertake other duties appropriate to the grading of the post as required.
