Job Title:
Youth Club Worker


Responsible to:
Community Engagement Worker


Salary:
£12.25 per hour,on a zero hours contract basis. This service is term time only


Hours:
Thursdays 4pm - 6.30pm. Currently 2.5 hours per week, term time only


Purpose of the job


To help deliver the Youth Club provision for 8-12 year olds on the Parkside Estate and Coldbath and Orchard Estates and surrounding areas within the Borough of Lewisham and Greenwich.


To work in partnership with other workers and agencies offering services to young people on behalf of QDT and the Washhouse, in particular, Peabody.


Main tasks/ duties

  • To work directly with children and young people to provide positive activities, promoting a nurturing environment in which young people can develop
  • To offer support and guidance throughout your work and to encourage positive outcomes for young people in every aspect of your work
  • To work with children and young people in small and large groups
  • To work flexibly to ensure the needs of our members are met, including disadvantaged children and young people
  • To encourage and maintain positive behaviour during sessions and follow the Behaviour Policy at all times.
  • To work within the team by joint planning, good communication, evaluating sessions, help with organising events and joint projects with colleagues. This includes some record keeping.
  • To support and recommend ways of building the Youth Club member numbers in the local community.
  • To promote cultural cohesion and inclusion, and proactively challenge and prejudice and discrimination
  • To assist with the planning of youth projects and other projects as required. A fundamental aspect of this will be ensuring the participation of young people in activities and that their ideas contribute fully in the delivery and evaluation of activities
  • To understand and adhere to policies and procedures at all times with particular emphasis on Equal Opportunities, Health and Safety and Safeguarding
  • To promote and safeguard the welfare of children and young people
  • To promote a positive image of the club through your work
  • To gain an understanding of the local community and develop links as appropriate, including links with Local Authorities and other providers in the area.
  • To keep records, evaluate and report on youth work undertaken as required. In particular, there is an expectation to report behaviour, conversations or comments which are inappropriate within a setting for children and young people
  • A willingness to participate in appropriate training and education as part of a commitment to continued professional development.
  • Any other duties appropriate to the post.

Level required
Minimum 1 year of experience in a relevant field ideally with Youths - E

Experience of assessing & identifying young peoples needs

Education

Level required
Nationally recognised qualification in Youth & or Community Work
