Role Description:
Research Fellow in Space Robotics and Astronautics
About the Role
Cranfield's Space Group is the leading European centre of postgraduate education in space engineering.
As a Research Fellow you will contribute to the research activities of the Centre for Autonomous and Cyberphysical Systems, especially concerning the specific activities of:
(1) research in space robotics and astronautics; (2) develop and manage the research and teaching activities associated with the space robotics laboratory; (3) assist the research activities of the space group and/or in partnership with other academics of the ASMiC team; (4) assist teaching activities, providing co-supervision on individual/group research projects, workshops and tutorial sessions of the MSc in Astronautics and Space Engineering. There is a strong emphasis on engaging with our university collaborators, strategic industrial partners, and defence & securities partners in the UK and abroad.
About You
You will have a PhD in Astronautics and/or Space Robotics (or be close to completion).
With an excellent research track record and/or job experience in disciplines such as space robotics, guidance navigation and control of space systems, attitude and orbit control systems and space systems engineering.
Hands-on experience in robotic, AOCS and GNC hardware development as well as electronics and mechatronics is also desirable.You will have knowledge of space robot control, design, and autonomy (including perception, planning, control, sensing and actuation etc.) as well as space mechanics, orbital and attitude dynamics and control, demonstrated through publications and/or relevant research/industrial projects in the area.
Demonstrated experience in using development frameworks such as ROS/Gazebo and/or Matlab/Simulink is a requirement and you will be able to manage and carry out work in multiple research projects, with ability on prioritizing and meeting strict deadlines.
You will be able to disseminate results to specialized audience and publications as well as engage with industry and partners, demonstrate proficiency in technical writing and a track record with publications in well-recognized journals and conferences.
