Job Requirements:
Alkegen Widnes is a full
- sized manufacturing process plant operating 365 days on a full 24 / 7 production basis, consisting of two fibre producing manufacturing units.

This position is responsible for all facets of the maintenance function of the Widnes facility.


Must demonstrate the energy, urgency, professionalism and leadership necessary to encourage and provide a consistent, high quality level of problem identification, effective resource allocation, and timely repair of all plant equipment, machinery and facilities in order to help ensure the achievement of all plant goals and objectives.


Must continuously develop and implement an effective, formal preventative maintenance program and maintain a thorough spare parts inventory for all critical machinery and equipment.


Must develop and maintain a high skill level through setting of high standards of performance and regular training of team members is expected.


Major Job Functions and Tasks:

  • Deliver health and safety objectives and ensure site procedures strictly followed by the team in line with site standards and safety improvement plan.
  • Development and implementation of datalogging systems and diagnostic tools to assist all manufacturing functions to assist all manufacturing functions in failure analysis.
  • Effective line management of engineering technician team and utilisation of contractor staff to deliver identified work programs.
  • Liaise with Engineering management team, Operations Managers, Reliability, Planning, Project to ensure a seamless maintenance routine of all assets occurs.
  • To be responsible for the maintenance and QA of all plant instrumentation and control systems.
  • Manage orders on CMMS system and Review/develop and maintain all equipment repair records.
  • Complete scheduled overhaul maintenance as part of engineering team, in line with agreed cost and duration targets.
  • Coordinates the activities of all electrical personnel and contractors.
  • Maintain and organize inventory of spare parts/ equipment.
  • Actively participate in budget preparation and is responsible for cost control.
  • Assess skills and organize necessary training.
  • Arrange for adequate cover for training/university and holidays.
  • Manage the apprentices and ensure workload is sufficient and in line with the business goals to ensure they are 'shift ready'
  • Provide necessary tools and maintenance equipment.
  • Review, develop and implement formal, effective preventative maintenance program.
  • Analyse and initiate necessary design changes to equipment/systems to improve maintainability.
  • Maintain all relevant records of department operations (purchase orders, schedules, equipment, records, etc.).
  • Develop and maintain all relevant safety programs as required.
  • Provide troubleshooting assistance, as required, for production and engineering, including call outs.
  • Ensure relevant management of change processes are followed and drawings updated.
  • Ensure compliance with all rules, regulations and policies pertaining to all company, local and health, safety and environmental issues.
  • Ensure compliance with all company and plant rules and policies.
  • Facilitate engineering DER along with the maintenance manager
  • Responsible for implementing and coordinating all LV inspection and testing
  • Responsible for backing up of PLCs and drives on site
  • Assists with HV maintenance plan and liaising with external parties
  • Any other responsibilities as defined by the Site Engineering Manager

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Needed:

  • Time served electrical apprenticeship, HNC/HND Qualified
  • Proficient in Adaptive Coaching skills of listening, asking and
Responding.

  • Electrically Biased engineer with Mechanical skills
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Ideally have completed a recognised apprenticeship
  • Preferably someone with Electrical Furnace Power and Temperature Control
  • Thyristor 'Burst Firing' and Element Changes, Emerson Delta V DCS Systems, CMMS (Computerised Maintenance Management System
