Temporary Support Assistant

Norton Road, Stockton-on-Tees

£11.90 per hour, effective from 1 April 2024

32 hours per week - shift pattern between 8am - 10pm, over 7 days per week

We're seeking a friendly and compassionate Support Assistant to join our team on a temporary basis.

Norton Road comprises two buildings:
one with six two-bedroom flats, and one with five one-bedroom flats, 7 studio flats and a crash pad.

We provide supported housing for young people and adults aged 16 and over, who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.


We value our team and encourage learning and progression through our comprehensive induction programme, as well as on-going training to develop new and existing skills and encourage progression.

Sanctuary has their own Learning and Development Academy, who provide a wide range of training courses, open to all.

The role of Support Assistant will include:

  • Providing a high quality, hands on, personalised care and support service
  • Supporting customers to build the confidence they need to gain further independence
  • Encouraging customers to develop their daily living skills such as cooking, cleaning and being an active part of the community
  • Working with colleagues and partner agencies to achieve the best outcome for our customers
  • Maintaining a safe environment for customers, providing support in accordance with relevant regulations, procedures and practices

Skills and experiences:


  • You will have previous experience in a similar care and support role, ideally working with vulnerable people
  • Ability to demonstrate a positive and accepting approach to customers whatever their needs
  • You will be empathetic and nonjudgmental with a positive, 'cando' attitude
  • Excellent interpersonal, organisational, listening, communication and time management skills
  • Ability to prioritise and organise workload
  • NVQ2 in Health & Social Care is desirable
