Job Summary


The main purpose is to ensure the execution of scheduled and ad hoc flights in the safest and most cost-effective manner, in accordance with aviation regulations and NHV standards.

The Chief Pilot contributes to operational availability, efficiency, safety, and operational management of the base. This is a Monday to Friday role.

  • Respons. & areas
  • Take responsibility for the supervision of all flight operations at his base
  • Attend and represent the Company for local meetings with the airport, authorities operational related steering groups. Results and outcome from these meetings will be discussed and shared with the Base Manager and the NP FO
  • Collect and filter feedback and suggested improvements from the base about operational issues and matters and discuss this with the NP FO
  • Develop, maintain, and update local base instructions including the OMC in liaison with the NP FO
  • Act as an AOC holder representative during audits and inspections where required
  • Monitor the welfare and progression of the flying staff
  • Be an active participant in any recruitment of aircrew within Flight Operations
  • Initiate disciplinary procedures for his reports if necessary
  • Perform flying duties on a regular basis
  • Keep track of currency of crew licenses, including night recency, deck landing recency etc, and take appropriate timely actions where relevant due dates are indicated
  • Anticipate exceedances and take appropriate and timely action to prevent flights being performed by crew not in compliance with the FTL
  • Track and collate all crew FTL discretion reports and report to the Authority where necessary

Safety responsibilities:

  • Monitor the submission of Air Safety Reports
  • Attending the monthly Flight Ops SAG meeting


The Base Chief Pilot may delegate tasks to another senior pilot on duty when deemed necessary whilst maintaining overall responsibility.


  • Experience
  • Aberdeen base operational experience
  • Hold the position of Captain with NHV
  • UK CAA ATPL(H) License
  • Valid UK CAA Class 1 Medical
  • Valid UK CAA H175 Type Rating
  • Skills
  • ICT knowledge (specific aviation software & administrative programs)
  • English: Proficiency Level 4
  • Easy communicator with a flair for negotiation and networking
  • A natural sense of providing direction and team coaching
  • Strong knowledge of regulations, procedures, and standardisation
  • Accurate in the handling of paperwork and reports
