Description

The role is Trust wide and plays a key role in developing Trust-wide initiatives by ensuring compliance with legislation, meeting national targets by encouraging and promoting organisation wide participation and awareness in environmental projects & waste management.


Main Tasks:


  • Support the delivery of Sustainable Action Plan (green plan), Travel Plan, Biodiversity Action Plan & Energy Efficiency Action Plan
  • Support in preparation of data for the (Green plan updates, Travel plan updates, Utilities updates, annual report contribution) for transformation programme board, joint liaison committee, Calderdale, and Kirklees joint scrutiny committee etc.
  • Monthly IPR reporting for utilities
  • Support the collation of Quarterly Greener NHS data collection
  • Support with staff engagement, staff surveys & trust wide communications etc.
  • Support external contractors in preparation of Display Energy Certificate renewals.
  • Support the implementation of the Trusts Electric Vehicle Strategy.
  • Research
- (Salix funding, decarbonisation, energy efficiency, sustainable practices, solutions & innovations etc ), webinars/ workshops, CPD.

  • Support the delivery of Carbon literacy training.
  • Train towards Energy Management qualifications.
  • Be a Waste & Energy Champion for the Trust, providing help & support by having/demonstrating
  • The ability to create, drive and promote internal awareness campaigns.
  • Being knowledgeable and up to date on the latest waste/environmental policies, trends, and regulations.
  • Demonstrating a willingness to challenge others on their behaviour.
  • Displaying a passion for the environment.
  • Leading by example within the workplace.

Our Estates and Facilities management functions alongside our Medical Engineering, decontamination and procurement service, provides the following:

Identify opportunities for cost effective investment in waste minimisation and recycling schemes, producing, and presenting reports / papers to reflect this.


  • Attend waste management contract meetings with procurement and providing data and reports and provide feedback to relevant managers where and when necessary.
  • Responsible for ensuring close liaison and interfacing with the 'internal client', clinicians and external contractors when on site so that all aspects of the waste management function within the sites managed achieve the clinical requirements and enhance the patient's wellbeing and recovery.
  • To provide operational support to the organisation on waste management. This will include a 'hands on approach' for implementation of new projects.
  • To support the implementation of service level agreements for the services provided.
  • Encourage and develop a culture to ensure the highest levels of customer service are delivered by facilities staff promoting a professional and caring manner.
  • To assist with consultation with community and patient groups to ensure their views are incorporated into the delivery of facilities services.
  • Completion of necessary Trust, NHS, and statutory returns in relation to waste e.g., ERIC.
  • Have an understanding of relevant national standards and requirements as outlined by CQC, NCS and PLACE processes
  • To ensure standard operating procedures and protocols are in place on sites managed as required and that compliance with these is monitored.
  • Support for organising and conducting pre acceptance waste audits, with competent company.
  • Undertake ad hoc waste audits to ensure compliance.
  • Proactively seek ways in which services can be continuously improved.
