The College


The College of Nursing Midwifery and Healthcare's approach to teaching and learning is student-centered and employability-focused, making use of an innovative curriculum and simulation.

The Role


The Apprenticeship Support Link Tutor (ASLT) will support apprentices on the nursing associate and nurse apprenticeship degree course whilst they are in practice.

This will include liaising with their practice assessor, practice supervisors and employers.


Key areas of responsibility

  • The ASLT will be key to ensuring compliance with both the apprenticeship and Nursing and Midwifery Council education and professional body regulations.
  • Ensure regular and timely meetings with the apprentices initially 68 weeks and thereafter every 10 weeks with the aim of reviewing practice learning and progress. These may be digital meetings.
  • Maintain clear and affective communication with the apprentice, their workplace and their practice assessor.
  • Provide feedback on performance of individual apprentices to the employer's apprenticeship lead following placement evaluations.
  • Assist employers to identify learning and development resources which best meet the learning needs of the apprentices on placement.
  • Contribute to the preparation and ongoing development of practice assessors and practice supervisors to effectively support of the apprentices.
  • Support practice assessors and practice supervisors to make appropriate. Decisions when dealing with complex situations, such as making reasonable adjustments for learners in practice, the underachievement of apprentices or issues relating to fitness to practice.
  • Contribute to feedback to the placement area and education provider following the apprentice's evaluation of their practice placement experience and provide practice staff with support to identify and address placement actions.
  • Advice apprentices, practice assessors and practice supervisors where and how to record learners progress.
  • Participate in the recruitment and selection process of apprenticeship students commensurate with the grade of lecturer.
  • Carry out necessary administrative responsibilities and participate fully in quality assurance processes within the College of Nursing, Midwifery and Healthcare.


In addition to the above areas of responsibility the post-holder maybe required to undertake any other reasonable duties relating to the broad scope of the position, commensurate with the post, and in support of the University.


The Person


The successful applicant will have a degree in Nursing or healthcare and be registered with the NMC as an Adult Nurse.

In addition the individual will have excellent interpersonal, facilitation and communication skills with resilience to manage conflicting demands and tight time scales.

The person will need have IT skills in use of MS Word, Excel. PowerPoint and digital communication and be able to produce high quality written and verbal reports.
