Warwick Arts Centre is the largest arts centre outside London, situated at the heart of the University of Warwick campus.

We are very much part of our local community, and we want to reflect that community in all that we do.

It is our job to bring art into more people's lives and this position of Creative Director is key to helping us reach more people in new ways.


Our broad artistic programme covers creative learning activities, orchestral and contemporary music, theatre and dance, exhibitions and cinema, comedy, literature and the spoken word.

We work with a wide range of artists and creatives from World leading theatre makers to students.

The Creative Director will lead the Programming Team to create inspiring programmes that are relevant to our times and create memorable experiences for diverse audiences.


We are on a journey transforming the Arts Centre, opening our doors to more people from different backgrounds, working with local communities to create artistic experiences where they live and in our spaces, making sure that Warwick Arts Centre really is open to everyone.

JOB PURPOSE


The Creative Director will work alongside the Director to provide inspirational leadership of the artistic programme and to deliver a programme that is commercially viable, relevant to our times and that attracts diverse audiences.


You will lead the programme team in developing and delivering a commercially viable programme alongside events that balance risk and artistic innovation.

This will include ensuring close integration of audience development, programming and marketing, delivering programmes of excellence in all art forms that grow audiences and show considerable commercial flair.


You will demonstrate the confidence to programme across art forms working with the team and our partners to present a dynamic offer that speaks to our students, our local communities, and our existing audiences.

And ensure the Arts Centre remains artistically relevant to audiences and participants of today, tomorrow and the future.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Creative Development, Delivery and Management


To lead on the development, management and delivery of a coherent programme demonstrating quality and depth across all programming strands and including creative learning, visual art, cinema, music, dance, theatre, comedy and live art across the Arts Centre, the University's public realm, in local communities and in any new digital spaces.


Working with the programming team, freelance producers, contracted programme providers, student societies and venue hirers, to ensure all aspects of the programme form an integrated whole and are communicated effectively across the organisation.

To provide effective leadership, motivate and support to the Programming team and direct line management of the Head of Music, Head of Creative Learning, Cinema and Screen Producer, Curator and Programme Manager,

Representing Warwick Arts Centre's artistic ambitions as appropriate for a regionally, nationally and internationally recognised Arts Centre.


Continuous strategic development of Warwick Arts Centre's programme and artistic ambitions within the context of the challenges thrown up by today's artists and creatives, audiences and financial expectations.


To lead on establishing commercial artistic projects during vacation period that achieve stretching income targets and raise the profile of the Arts Centre.


To maintain knowledge, impact and maintenance of positive relationships with artists, their agents, companies and peers in the artistic community.


Financial and Contractual


To establish budgets, monitor financial performance and lead the programming team to ensure that the programme is delivered on budget.

To control and manage programme income and expenditure budgets working within the University financial regulations, policies and procedures.


Negotiation of financial deals and contracts with visiting companies, promoters, artists, internal University users etc, including the agreement of fees, royalties, technical and marketing costs.


Drafting event proposal budgets; undertaking financial scoping exercises including ticket pricing, realistic income targets, and estimation of costs to test viability of projects.

Managing all event budgets and ensuring tight budgetary control and that targets are achieved.

To negotiate and oversee all deals and contractual Heads of Terms agreements within the programming team.

Ensuring that all contractual arrangements properly support the revenue activities of other departments e.g. operations and technical, marketing and fundraising.
