£45,390 - £57, 582 (London), £39,400 - £51,582 (Newcastle)

  • Value for money audit principal (Performance auditor): £54,735 £65,146 (London), £44,367 £59,088 (Newcastle)
  • The National Audit Office (NAO) is the UK's main public sector audit body. Independent of government, we have responsibility for auditing the accounts of various public sector bodies, examining the propriety of government spending, assessing risks to financial control and accountability, and reviewing the economy, efficiency and effectiveness of programmes, projects and activities. We report directly to Parliament, through the Committee of Public Accounts of the House of Commons which uses our reports as the basis of its own investigations. We employ some 800 staff, most of whom are qualified accountants, trainees or technicians. They work in one of two main areas, financial audit or value for money (VFM) audit.

Responsibilities

  • Main responsibilities
  • As a core member of the People and Operational Management Insight Team, you will strengthen our expertise, leverage our knowledge, and curate insights to deliver on our strategic priorities as an organisation. You will influence and impact the quality of people practices across government to support informed decision making, delivery of highquality public services, and improved value for money.
  • Develop and deploy knowledge
  • Supporting effective knowledge management and the development of specific people knowledge products, and sharing both within the team and across the wider office
  • Providing advice and guidance to value for money and financial audit teams, as required
  • Horizon scanning to keep informed of emerging people issues and crosscutting themes relevant to the Hub's work or which may impact on how we deliver work
  • Undertaking direct work on studies or audit support
  • Develop skills and expertise in people/HR
External influencing & engagement

  • Engaging with external clients and stakeholders to secure greater impact for our work
  • Coordinating our approach to stakeholder management to maximise its effectiveness
Developing capability

  • Developing an understanding of how we can further increase our capability to ensure Hubs are providing the required support and expertise
  • Supporting and developing colleagues to build their knowledge

  • Education/work experience
  • A strong academic background and experience in leading audit projects and producing high quality, accessible written outputs.

  • Use your technical knowledge and expertise to deliver high quality work across our VFM reports and wider work.

  • Scrutinise a wide range of government and thirdparty information sources and consider reliability and usefulness.
  • Communicate audit findings in wellstructured written outputs which add value for the client and can engage a wide audience.
