Laboratory Assistant

Contract Position


First Call Contract Services are looking to recruit a Degree Educated Laboratory Assistant for our client operations based in Huddersfield, HD2.

This exciting role will suit a recent graduate, or an experienced Laboratory Assistant.


The purpose of the role is to assist in the generate process hazards data for new and existing products, and in support of projects and manufacturing processes, to meet the targets of Process Hazards Section and Syngenta's businesses as a whole.

To interpret data and present results in consultation with their manager in order to make contributions to decisions in the work programme or problem resolution

This role is being recruited for in Huddersfield, HD2.


Role Summary and Responsibilities:


  • Plan and carry out experimental work programmes to determine process hazards data for materials and processes.
  • Assess the acceptability of experimental results and use standard computer data processing techniques to produce data analysis.
  • Record all laboratory work appropriately and compile results for inclusion in final reports.
  • Follow appropriate procedures to ensure work is carried out safely and effectively.
  • Carry out work to the requirements of ISO900
  • Where applicable, carry out work to the requirements of GLP as defined by the UK GLP Compliance Programme.
  • Perform basic troubleshooting activities in cases where laboratory equipment malfunctions.
  • Educated to degree level in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering, or a science apprenticeship.
  • Familiar with literature searching and the use of library information systems.
  • Good skills in standard computing packages. (e.g. Word, Excel, MS Teams), also an understanding of computer hardware / software interfaces, and data capture software (e.g. Orchestrator, LabVIEW)
  • Ability to work in multifunctional groups, primarily within PHS and T&E.
Hours of work are Monday to Friday, 8am to 4pm. Hours of work can be discussed around public transport or other commitments.

Starting salary £17.00P/H + company benefits.
