About this role
Prevention services support vulnerable people by providing them with skills, housing advice, accommodation, and tenancy sustainment support. All these services to help people transition towards leading independent lives.


We are looking for a Support worker to join the team at Lewisham IHASS (Intensive Housing Advice and Support Service) team.

The Lewisham Accommodation for Ex-Offenders programme (AFEO) will support people who have involvement with the criminal justice system and who are housed in PRS accommodation, to sustain their tenancies.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is keen to develop their knowledge and skills and has a passion for supporting vulnerable adults.


You will:

  • Carry a caseload of up to 30 people.
  • Prevent homelessness for people with tenancies at risk in the community via advocacy and mediation work with landlords
  • Sustaining Temporary Accommodation placements and increasing tenancy sustainment outcomes exoffenders in the private rented sector accommodation
  • Maximising the income of those referred to the service through a number of measures e.g. maximising benefit income, reducing rent arrears and debt management support
  • Increasing resilience of people using our services through developing independent living skills and linking with education, training and employment services to enable longterm sustainable independence
  • Enhancing people's quality of life by working closely with health and wellbeing services; including mental health and substance misuse and probation services

To succeed as the Support worker you will have:

  • The ability to provide a flexible and responsive service to people with experience of rough sleeping and homelessness
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to form and maintain effective working relationships with all partners
  • Commitment to supporting people to achieve the best outcomes as they work towards independence with strong organisation skills, with the ability to manage conflicting priorities and deadlines.
  • Competent at using a computer and a range of software packages
  • Committed to developing your knowledge and skills
  • Responsive and flexible to the needs of the team and the clients.
