Job Summary:

An entry-level office role in the travel & tourism sector, requiring attention to detail, map-reading skills and confidence in written English, with computer skills a must.

On-the-job training provided.


Job Purpose:

Researching accommodation & transport suppliers for self-guided walking, cycling and running holidays; making decisions on the best suppliers for Contours to ensure the best value & quality for our customers.


Responsibilities & Duties

  • Updating, maintaining & reviewing accommodation listings on our bespoke database, assessing suitability against our criteria and choosing the best options for our customers
  • Writing clear, concise, and accurate walking directions between the trail and the accommodation for our clients, using a range of guidebooks, printed maps and Google mapping.
  • Investigating complaints from customers about accommodations & written directions; if necessary, contacting those accommodations to discuss resolution, or amending directions accordingly
  • Using mapping software to check the daily distances and cumulative ascents of walking routes offered by Contours Walking Holidays
  • Ad hoc duties to assist in the efficient running of the business, with crossover between departments

The role may also involve opportunities to walk our trails on the job.

  • To check original route notes
  • To write walking directions to accommodations
  • To investigate and inspect accommodations in person

Please note:

visiting trails in person is
NOT a compulsory or regular component of this role, as we have more staff keen to get out on the trails than we have opportunities to send them.


Qualifications and Skills

  • Mapreading skills
    essential must be able to confidently relate maps to tools such as Google Street View, and accurately describe a route based primarily on map interpretation.
  • Confident PC user, including
    Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook and Excel)
  • Outstanding organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, both
    in person &
    on the phone

Required Experience
You are not required to have existing office experience.

However, you must be able to demonstrate personal experience of:


  • Meeting tight deadlines
  • Working quickly and precisely under pressure
  • Working as part of a team

  • 28 days annual leave including bank holidays, increasing to 30 days after 3 years' service, and 31 days after 5 years

Hours:


  • Standard fiveday week
  • Monday to Friday with additional Saturday shifts on rota approximately one Saturday shift a month, compensated with a day in lieu the following week
  • 9:00 to 5:30 (1 hour unpaid lunch break)
  • 37.5 hours per week
