Primary Objective


The primary duty of the Energy and Sustainability UK Lead is accountability for all aspects of development and delivery for the Sustainability team and projects focusing on the United Kingdom market and to drive leadership within the team, create an atmosphere of positivity and drive morale and ensure projects are delivered technically correct and on time and on budget.

Co-ordinate with Project Managers ensure projects are delivered within the budgets available.


Primary Responsibilities
In the role of Energy and Sustainability UK Lead, we'll count on you to:

  • Lead by Example
  • Represent HDR and our Building Engineering Services (BES) practice as a leader
  • Work hand in hand with the BES Area Business Group Manager (and/or BES Design Services Manager) and fellow professional services managers, as a member of the area BES leadership team to facilitate the successful operation of the group.
  • Motivate individuals and the group.
  • Exert a positive influence in the work environment morale.
  • Engage with fellow "Section Managers" throughout BES. Build a community of practice around technical excellence and project delivery for respective business class. Work collaboratively to satisfy and support enterprise needs.
  • Supervise Staff
  • Manage staff address personnel issues, delegate responsibilities, strategic planning of business class section at the area level.
  • Recruit and develop talent.
  • Mentor staff conduct annual performance conversations for staff.
  • Provide technical and professional guidance.
  • Help staff with professional development and career plans/growth.
  • Work delegation and staffing
  • Assign staff to projects align workload with project schedules, staff availability, and staff expertise.
  • Coordinate with Managing Principals for workshare outside the area, as required.
  • QA/QC implementation and enforcement
  • Section managers are technical leaders and should take an active role in monitoring technical quality of work within their section.
  • Foster a culture of Quality.
  • Coordinate with Project Managers ensure projects are delivered within the budgets available.
  • Teach and lead proper execution of the Quality Management Systems (QMS)
  • Enforce expectations and accountability around QA/QC procedures.
  • Project delivery accountability and enforcement
  • Take an active role in monitoring project budgets and schedules within section.
  • Communicate with staff and PMs to ensure project info is clearly understood by all:
  • Scope
  • Budget
  • Deliverables
  • Schedule
  • Forecasting
  • Assist the Area Business Group Manager in determining shortterm, midterm, and longterm forecasting for respective business class. Assist with project proposals related to respective business class.

Qualifications

Experience, Skills and Qualifications

  • Educational qualifications to a masters or degree level or equivalent.
  • Ideally should hold or working towards Chartered status in a professional technical field.
  • Working knowledge of Energy and Sustainability requirements for planning, building regulations and green certification tools would be a benefit
  • Good knowledge and use of appropriate project and design analysis software.
  • Able to establish rapport and good working relationships within the project team and Clients.
  • Be able to have exceptional interpersonal skills with a strategic focus on continuous improvement of process and staff development.
  • Strong relationship building skills, the ability to establish credibility quickly with a demanding group of stakeholders. A good influencer with high levels of emotional professional intelligence with a strong customer service ethic applied internally and externally.
