Applications are invited for the post of Consultant in ENT with specialist interest in head & neck and thyroid cancer to join the team of Consultants in the Ear Nose and Throat Department of East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust.

We seek an enthusiastic and self motivated person to join our forward thinking team.

The post holder is expected to provide We are looking for a team player with an enthusiasm for teaching and training.

All the Consultants provide a general ENT service and in addition they have a sub-specialty interest.


We are looking to appoint a full time General ENT Surgeon with Specialist Interest in Sleep Related Breathing Disorders (SRBD) as we look to implement this service within the department.

The post holder will hold regular independent outpatient clinics and will be responsible for formalising patient care pathways. This involves care of adult and paediatric patients.


The post holder will also be responsible for pre, post and perioperative care of head and neck cancer and thyroid patients undergoing surgery as well as provision of care for the in-patients.

the postholder will under take MDT clinics and one stop neck lump assessment clinics.


The department is supported by the following medical staff: 1 Associate Specialist, 2 Speciality Drs, 2 ST3+ trainees and 1 MCH Trainee, 1 Core Surgical trainee, 1 Junior Clinical Fellow, 1 FY2 trainee, 1 GPST and 1 FY1 trainee. With further support from 1 ACP and 1 Specialist Nurse.

The appointee will be required to live within 10 miles or 30 minutes travel time by car of the relevant Trust Hospital base.


The Trust will reimburse certain expenses relating to removal and 8 relocation when required; the expenses refunded shall reflect the actual costs involved but will not exceed £8,000.

A satisfactory medical examination is a condition of employment for Medical and Dental staff in the NHS.

The successful applicant will join an established ENT team


The postholder will be part of the on-call consultant rota, which is 1:6 non resident and supported by both middle grade and junior on call tiers who undertake the 1stand 2ndon call management of emergency ENT patients.

We have a strong emphasis on training and have a strong commitment to support, mentorship and development of all of our staff and have regular multidisciplinary meetings
