As we continue to deliver upon Mission 25, whereby we double our impact, there are further growth and development opportunities within Place & Environment.

As a team we deliver all estate services, providing a full range of maintenance and repair works that includes delivering our unique programme of Health & Safety compliance, Fire Safety, and major stock refurbishment.


  • This new role supports our Head of Health & Safety, Fire and wider Place & Environment team, highly experienced project managers, external consultants, and our P&E Director.
  • You will bring wide ranging skills and experience to join the team and help how we ensure safety for all within One YMCA
  • Key to this role is the ability to assist/administer for the Head of Health & Safety, Fire. To build strong and collaborative relationships with people across all areas.
  • Your inclusive approach will really engage with people and help us drive our Health and Safety & Fire Safety initiative and programme of work forward.
  • Your knowledge, skills, personality will enable you to respond to challenges through negotiation and influence, gaining the support and confidence of heads of departments, managers, stakeholders and external parties.
  • Positively engaging with customers and developing, growing and maintaining customer relationships.
  • You must be able to demonstrate sound experience in coordinating/administering Health & Safety and Fire Safety processes and procedures in accordance with recognised standards and have a real appetite for change, ongoing improvement, and transformation.
  • You will be able to identify and make recommendations for service improvements.
  • You must have the personal skills to be able to assist with implementing effective Health & Safety & Fire Safety arrangements and to advise the Head of Health & Safety, Fire if performance/compliance does not reach the standards required.
This is a Hybrid role with occasional travel (meetings etc.)


By the end of these three days, there was a brilliantly multi-faceted set of themes and ideas, which formed the starting point for the rest of the Mission 25 process to build on.

The aim of Mission 25 is to give every staff member and volunteer the opportunity to play their part in shaping the strategy to do "more and better, together" so that we double our impact by 2025.

We deliver a vast array of services across Herts, Beds and Bucks that reach over 135,000 individuals annually.


These include:

  • Provision of over 700 units of accommodation for homeless people
  • Move on accommodation for individuals moving onto independent living
  • Housing and practical/emotional support for young asylum seekers
  • Community HUBs hosting a range of activities and meeting space hire
  • Childcare provision in Hertfordshire
  • Family support through a network of children's and family centres covering Hertfordshire and Bedford
  • Therapeutic and nontherapeutic support for male and female victims of domestic abuse and their children
  • Independent sexual violence services across Bedfordshire, Luton and Hertfordshire
  • Domestic abuse perpetrator reform programmes across Bedfordshire
  • Youth services offering emotional wellbeing support and youth club opportunities for 1119 year olds alongside our National Airplay programme funded by the RAF Benevolent Fund
