This position is funded through an EU Horizon 2020 Research Project (RADIANT), and is available from 01/04/2024 to project end date 31/08/2025.


The overall aim of WP4 (led by David Styles) is to supplement relative environmental efficiency metrics based on life cycle assessment (LCA) with simple metrics capturing broader sustainability and resilience attributes, based on ecosystem services and economic assessment.

Emphasis is placed on capturing aspects necessary to tackle common weakness in industrialised agri-food value chains, such as soil degradation, lack of agri-biodiversity, low levels of multifunctionality and unbalanced distribution of revenue.


Duties:


  • Undertake life cycle assessment (LCA) of cropping systems and value chains
  • Integrate LCA with ecosystem services and economic metrics from project partners
  • Participate in project workshops and meetings
  • Write reports and scientific articles
  • Any other duties assigned commensurate to this level of post

Qualifications/Skills required:


Essential Requirements:


  • PhD in a relevant science, engineering or economics discipline
  • Excellent knowledge of cropping systems
  • Demonstrated ability to publish scientific papers

Desirable Requirements:


  • Experience with ecosystem services assessment
  • Knowledge of resilience assessment
  • Knowledge of underutilized crops
  • Project management experience
