Living Well Consortium is recruiting for two Senior Employment Advisers to establish and lead an employment advice service within IAPT.

The service aims to support service users seeking psychological therapies with their employment needs.


The post holder will line manage a team of Employment Advisers working in Consortium Providers, whilst also managing a small caseload of service users.

This includes working with Consortium members to ensure that the new service is embedded in IAPT (Talking Therapies) and that the highest professional standards are maintained.

Applicants should have a degree in a relevant area or equivalent experience in either employment advice or mental health. They should also have experience providing line management or supervision.


Responsibilities and Duties

  • Line management and case management of a team of Employment Advisers, ensuring the effective delivery of the service.
  • Manage the training and inductions of Employment Advisers.
  • Promote the Employment Advice service within IAPT and ensure Employment Advisers are fully embedded in IAPT services.
  • Advise and support Employment Advisers with complex cases.
  • To work with IAPT Providers within the Consortium to ensure the development and maintenance of a highest professional standards.
  • Liaise with Clinical Leads within the Consortium to ensure that the service is embedded and fully utilised.
  • Maintain a reduced caseload of service users, supporting them with establishing employment goals and producing personalised action plans.
  • Maintain an indepth knowledge of the local job market and any employment focused community initiatives.
  • Build and promote strong relationships with external agencies such as Trade Unions and Job Centres to ensure successful delivery of the service.
  • Remain informed on relevant employment legislation and any changes to this.
  • Keep data systems and databases up to date to ensure correct reporting.
  • Report on the number of clients starting employment support and the number of employment support sessions delivered, as well as other reporting as required.
  • Manage budgets and authorise expense claims for Employment Advisers.
  • Undertake and participate in audits of the service when required.
  • Provide a service that is nondiscriminatory and compassionate.
  • Lead in the creation and maintenance of a successful Employment Advice Service.
  • Undertake training as and when required by the organisation.
  • Attend and contribute to meetings as required by the organisation.
  • Work within the organisations policies and procedures.
  • Undertake such other duties commensurate with the role.
  • Understand and work within the ethos, aims and objectives of LWC.

Person Specification and experience

  • A degree in a relevant area or equivalent experience in employment advice or mental health.
  • Experience in providing employment support.
  • Experience using data systems such as IAPTUS.
  • An understanding of confidentiality.
  • Previous experience of line management or supervision.
  • An understanding of the barriers to employment that some people may experience.
  • A knowledge of mental health sector as well as of the IAPT Stepped Care Model.
  • A working knowledge of community resources as well as employment and disability related benefits.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Effective time management and workload management.
  • Strong problemsolving skills.
  • Empathy with the aims and values of the organisation.
  • Commitment to continuous improvement including own professional development.
  • Willingness to be flexible and dynamic as organisation needs change.

Outline Terms and Conditions:
Working hours: 37.5 hours per week

£38,262.00
