We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced senior nurse to join the senior nursing and management team as matron for Patient Flow across the division.


We are looking for a senior nurse to provide nursing leadership and promote best practices across our surgical, neuro and medical areas supporting clinical decision making promoting patient flow across our division.

You should be committed to improving quality and the patients experience with a demonstrable evidence of this at ward and divisional level.


As a matron for flow you will work with several members of the senior management team and bed management team promoting patient flow pathways.

You will be expected to work with other teams such as emergency department, critical care and theatres ensuring an effective management of our surgical emergency and elective activity.


You must have a willingness to embrace innovative ways of working has been a key element to our operational success.

Main duties of the job


A Matron for Quality and Patient Flow and Pathway plays a pivotal role within Division D, ensuring the delivery of high-quality patient care while optimising the efficiency of healthcare services.

This leadership position combines clinical expertise, management skills, and a commitment to continuous improvement to enhance patient outcomes and streamline the patient journey.


Reporting directly to the Divisional Deputy Head of Nursing the Matron for Quality and patient flow and pathways will support the Divisional Head of Nursing and wider team across the Division to deliver clinical leadership, ensuring the delivery of safe, effective high quality clinical care and consistent achievement of care standards.


Provide professional and managerial leadership and support across the divisional quality management team with a highly visible and authoritative presence.


Lead on collaborative MDT working in the efficient management of flow through Division D emergency and elective pathways, high quality, timely and coordinated health care, promoting the utilisation of Same Day Emergency Care and Virtual ward to mention a few of the opportunities.


Focus approach on delivery and compliance of all quality indicators that are associated with delivering flow, supporting early/timely discharge, including modelling trajectories for reduction in our patients in ED LOS, reducing LOS.

Responsible for proposing, formulating, and implementing departmental policies related to Patient Flow and pathways.
