Main purpose of the job:
To provide expert knowledge and skills in the care of haematology patients. This is an existing post to replace a retiring colleague. An interest in haematological malignancies is essential and sub-speciality interest in management of lymphoma patients is desirable.
(Primarily based at Royal Oldham Hospital, with possibility of some activity at other sites)
The post holder will:
- Provide Consultant Haematologist duties including outpatient and inpatient care, advice and guidance to other professionals and an oncall commitment.
- Share responsibility for the daytoday management of the Haematology Department.
- Ensure maintenance of the highest clinical standards in the management of haematology patients.
- Assist in teaching, training and supervision of junior staff and medical students where applicable.
- Actively participate in both Departmental and Trust matters concerning clinical governance and audit.
Today, Oldham is responsible for delivering a range of acute and community health services across the local area and at The Royal Oldham Hospital.
As a designated major trauma unit for Greater Manchester and one of only three vascular centres in Greater Manchester, Oldham is a specialist hospital for acute surgery and provides state-of-the-art onsite pathology services to the North West.
