NZ Police are offering an exciting opportunity to join the Police Prosecution Service (PPS) as a Prosecutor based in either Napier or Hastings PPS Office


You will be joining PPS at the start of an exciting period; with a significant injection of new funding and a project team established to support this, PPS is recruiting new staff, establishing new roles, and looking to develop new ways of working - all with the goal of ensuring our national team provides great prosecution services to our community and are well supported to do a great job.

We are pleased to be able to use this new funding to recruit a substantial number of additional prosecutors to support our fantastic, hardworking team.

We will also be streamlining and creating consistency in our practices, and introducing greater flexibility into our resourcing so we can inject extra support into offices when work demands change.


Another exciting change for PPS, that you will be play a key part in, is the wider justice sector's implementation of the Chief District Court Judge's Te Ao Mārama vision for the future of the District Court; to improve the experience for all people who participate in the court system, including victims and whanau.


As part of the PPS whanau, you will gain a sound knowledge of prosecution processes including advocacy, knowledge of the Law and court practices.

You will be part of a diverse group of Constabulary prosecutors, Police Employee lawyers, and support and managerial staff.

Dependent on your level of experience and knowledge at entry you will be involved in various out-of-court case management processes, such as file analysis, writing submissions, and liaising with police investigators and defence counsel.


In addition, you will be involved with courtroom advocacy, ranging from first appearance courts through to Judge alone Trials and sentencings hearings.


Your knowledge and understanding of key New Zealand statutes and legislation, combined with your desire and motivation to present well-constructed and compelling prosecution cases, will enable you to undertake a vital role in the Criminal Justice Sector and in the operationalisation of New Zealand Police's strategy.

  • The successful applicant will be required to undergo a full reference and security check prior to any offer of employment being made
