Description

This is an outstanding opportunity for a Lecturer in Machine Learning at the University of Sheffield, a world top 100 University.

Working in the Department of Computer Science, you will join our internationally recognised Machine Learning Research Group.

This new post is supported by a generous start-up package including funds for equipment/travel and a PhD studentship (covering UK tuition fee and stipend for 3.5 years).

Sheffield provides a stimulating environment for computer science research.

In the recent UK Research Excellence Framework (REF 2021), 99% of our research was rated in the highest two categories (4* and 3*), meaning that it is classed as world-leading or internationally excellent.

Half of our research outputs were judged to be world-leading.

We were rated as 8th in the UK (out of 90 institutions) for the quality of our research environment, and 70% of our impact was judged to be outstanding.

To drive our research agenda in machine learning forward, we are seeking to make an appointment at Lecturer level.

You will have a strong track record in developing novel machine learning methods, and expertise in an area of machine learning that will either support our existing research profile or complement it.

A key requirement of the role is the ability to establish collaborations with other research groups and engage in interdisciplinary projects.

You will conduct research to the highest standards. This will include securing research funding, publishing in high impact journals, supervision of research students and research project management.

You will hold a PhD in Computer Science or a related area.

As a teacher, you will play a key role in maintaining our reputation for high-quality teaching by designing, delivering and assessing undergraduate and postgraduate level programmes in machine learning and other topics in computer science.

The University of Sheffield has recently committed to an investment of £3.6M in a new Centre for Machine Intelligence, with the aim of positioning the University as a world-class centre for AI research.

We're one of the best not-for-profit organisations to work for in the UK.

The University's Total Reward Package includes a competitive salary, a generous Pension Scheme and annual leave entitlement, as well as access to a range of learning and development courses to support your personal and professional development.
