Job description:


The postholder will be Group Property's lead on the sustainable and environmental performance of the DfT(c) estate (including Great Minster House, One Priory Square, AAIB Farnborough, RAIB Farnborough and GCS Bermondsey).

There will also be collaboration with other Government Departments and landlords to manage the sustainable and environmental performance of the DfT(c) in other office locations in Leeds, Birmingham, Swansea, York and Edinburgh.


As the Sustainability Performance Lead, this role will also have the opportunity to devise and deliver innovative new plans to improve our environmental performance and lead the end to end management of environmental and sustainability projects at our sites working in conjunction with the FM contractors and property and policy colleagues.


_ Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: _

  • Lead on sustainability management, delivering improvements and managing reporting across DfT Group (including Arm's Length Bodies); ensuring compliance with Greening Government Commitments.
  • Maintain, manage, review and renew the DfT Operational Sustainability Strategy and ensure appropriate policies, standards and targets are in place and communicated across the organisation and suppliers.
  • Encourage the use of renewable and sustainable energy resources across the portfolio, driving innovation and championing industry best practice. In particular, work with the Building Services team to improve the sustainability performance of the central Department.
  • Keep abreast of all industry trends, developments, and legislation on carbon, waste and the environment and represent DfT at the crossWhitehall Sustainability Forum.
  • Develop relationships with colleagues, suppliers, contractors and other Government Departments to share best practice, improve performance and achieve targets.
  • Manage adhoc projects generated through the Total Facilities Management contract, Group Property activity or Sustainability requirements within the central Department. Ensuring that projects deliver desired outcomes and provide value for money.

Person specification:


About You


Experience of managing complex and innovative projects from start to finish and associated contract management is required, with the ability to influence and lead key stakeholders, colleagues and customers towards commercial solutions that support the business strategy.


Additional Information
Some UK travel will be required to visit the DfT regional offices.


Qualifications:


  • At a minimum, you will hold the institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA) Certificate and the APM Project Management qualification or equivalents and;
  • A willingness to work towards attaining the Chartered Environmentalist status (through IEMA, CIOB, CIWM, CABE or other property, infrastructure or building services body) or already hold Core Accreditation at Chartered, Certified or Fellow grade in RICS, IWFM, CIOB CEng, CEnv, RTPI or RIBA.
  • Hold or agree to work towards the appropriate level of Contract Management Certification.
