Role Purpose

With gifting, energy and creativity:

  • Oversee and take an active role in the youth and children's ministry within and beyond Broadway Baptist Church and identify and develop strategies for further growth and development with particular emphasis on 1118s but possibly extending to 1830s
  • Be responsible for overseeing the discipleship and pastoral care of young people within the church, ensuring they are an integral part of our church community
  • Work with the network of youth and children's workers locally and across the city, to reach young people who would otherwise have no church connection.

Special conditions of employment:There is a genuine occupational requirement that the post-holder is a Christian, as permitted under the Equality Act 2010.

Salary:£ per annum depending on experience.

Annual leave:25 days per annum plus bank holidays. Leave to be agreed in advance with line manager.

Safeguarding:Broadway Baptist is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people, and vulnerable adults. All post holders and volunteers are expected to share this commitment and undertake appropriate Safeguarding training.

Key Areas of Work
In collaboration with the minister, give a prayerful lead, form strategy and set priorities in the following areas.


Leadership including:

a. Leading and developing relevant youth and children's work and programmes that encourage spiritual and numerical growth.
b. Having oversight generally of the Sunday groups but prioritise the spiritual/social development of 11-18s.
c. Participating in and facilitating appropriate pastoral care and discipleship for 0-18s.
d. Helping to develop intergenerational aspects of worship
e. Supporting and encouraging the existing team of leaders. Where appropriate, signpost training as well as identify and encourage new leaders,
f. Working with the minister to ensure Safer Recruitment procedures.
g.

Being part of the safeguarding team, ensuring that relevant checks, safeguarding procedures and training are followed in all areas and that appropriate support is given to children with SEND.

h. Maintaining and developing the children's and youth notice boards, publicity, youth website and social media content.
i. Being part of the regular prayer life of the church

Wider Congregation:

a. Help to ensure young people are an integral part of our church community,
b. Producing reports to share at deacons and church meetings.
c. Work with existing groups and close community connections as part of the overall vision for youth and children's work.
d. Ensure that children and youth issues are addressed generally including appropriate safeguarding procedures.
e. Explore potential ministry with young adults

Mission:

a.

Work with the developing youth work network locally and across the city in schools work and community events to engage young people, particularly those who have no other contact with local church.


PERSON SPECIFICATION

We are looking, first and foremost, for a person with a deep Christian faith that is expressed in a love for Jesus, openness to the Holy Spirit and a willingness to bring their unique gifts and skills to the role.


Skills & Abilities


A clear passion and gifting for work with young people demonstrated in the ability to build meaningful and authentic relationships as a good role model.

Good oral, written and inter-personal skills with all ages

Good sense of humour:
able to have and be fun
Good Leadership skills and a team player
Self-motivated: able to work on own initiative
Ability to build, inspire and lead a team of volunteers
Reliable and able to remain calm under pressure
Enthusiastic and willing to work flexible hours
Good IT skills and the ability to use social media responsibly and in line with safeguarding principles.
Willingness to work within a Baptist context
Able to lead worship with young people (Desirable)
Full Driving Licence (Desirable)


Knowledge
A mature Christian faith and clear testimony
Knowledge of current issues concerning young people
Knowledge of current safeguarding legislation
Knowledge and understanding of SEND and mental health issues (Desirable)


Experience
A proven track record in children's and youth work
Experience of pastoring and discipling young people
Experience of evangelism amongst young people
Experience of working in and for a Christian church


Qualifications
GCSE grade C or above in English and Mathematics or equivalent
A relevant children's or youth work qualification (Desirable)
Theological or other Bible college q
