Full time starting salary is normally in the range £33,348 to £43,155, with potential progression once in post to £45,737

Grade 7

Full Time, Fixed Term contract up to December 2024

Background

Role Summary

  • Work within an MRC funded research grant on the development of guidance for the conduct of cluster randomised trials
  • Operate within area of systematic reviews of the methodological literature and perform simulationbased studies
  • Analyse and interpret research findings and results of CRTs
  • Contribute to wider team activities such as coordinating or participating in the research seminar series on cluster trials

Main Duties
The responsibilities may include some but not all of the responsibilities outlined below.

  • Perform a review of the methodological literature to determine the optimal small sample corrections in CRTs
  • Conduct a Delphi survey to obtain a consensus on the guidance
  • Contribute to the writing of the guidance
  • Contribute to writing bids for research funding (e.g., sample size calculations)
  • Analyse and interpret data (e.g., from a cluster trial)
  • Disseminate research findings for publication, research seminars etc
  • Supervise students on research related work and provide guidance to PhD students where appropriate to the discipline
  • Contribute to developing new models, techniques and methods
  • Contribute to Departmental/School researchrelated activities and researchrelated administration
  • Present research outputs, including drafting academic publications or parts thereof, for example at seminars and as posters

Person Specification

  • First degree in area of healthrelated research and ideally, an MSc or PhD (or close to completion) in statistics
  • High level analytical capability
  • Ability to communicate complex information clearly
  • Fluency in statistical coding, such as Stata, R or SAS
  • Understanding of and ability to contribute to broader management/administration processes
  • Contribute to the planning and organising of the research programme and/or specific research project
  • Coordinate own work with others to avoid conflict or duplication of effort
