Who we are looking for:


A talented individual who will support the Art coordinator in the development and delivery of an exciting and engaging programme of Art activities which will engage young people at Wigan Youth Zone.

Artists / Youth Workers/ Teachers with the outlined experiences in ceramics and clay would advantageous.


Knowledge and Understanding
Knowledge of the issues affecting young people and an ability to work with challenging behaviour

Understanding of the principles of working with children and young people

Knowledge of health and safety, diversity awareness and safeguarding best practice and how these relate to children and young people

Delivery of activities within an equality framework


Qualifications
Introduction to Youth Work or Youth and Community Work NVQ/VRQ Level - Desirable

Art-related qualifications - Desirable


What will you need to succeed:

Experience
Face to face activity delivery, working with children and young people (aged 8 plus) both in groups and individually - Desirable

Planning and delivering a range of art, craft & design workshops. A specialism or keen interest in clay and ceramics would be desirable but is not essential - Desirable

Experience of delivering clay workshops - Desirable

Experience of mixing and using glazes - Desirable

Experience of using and operating a kiln - Desirable

Experience of using a potter's wheel - Desirable

Experience of delivering varied arts activities such as painting, drawing, printmaking, têxtiles, fashion, sewing

Experience of supporting young people who are disaffected, underachieving and / or have social / emotional barriers to participation
  • Essential
Experience of working in a team and alongside volunteers

Organising a programme of youth/play work activities

What you will be doing


Support the Art co-ordinator in the development and delivery of creative Art activities at Wigan Youth Zone with a focus on clay and ceramics.


Become part of a forward thinking, innovative and motivated Art team and assist with the delivery of all aspects of art sessions with young people.

To work well in a team bringing fresh skills & ideas to the current offer

To motivate, encourage and support young people to try art activities and participate fully in sessions.

To break down any barriers to young people participating in the Art programme of activities;
To become part of sessional staffing requirements for the Art department

To support volunteers in sessions, coaching them to achieve their full potential within their given roles

To deal with any problems that arise during Youth Zone sessions;
Develop and maintain a professional relationship with the young people who attend the Art room.

Understand the needs of Wigan Youth Zone and communicate
