Children's
Daycare Unit: 22.5hrs/ week (Monday-Wednesday
- hours to be confirmed)
Children's Outpatient Department: 10.5 hrs (Monday & Wednesday afternoon-hours to be confirmed)
To provide a high quality, holistic play service for all children, young people and their families within the Children's Day Care Unit
To enable Children and Young People to feel at ease and feel safe within the hospital environment and have appropriate access to play whilst in hospital.
To work collaboratively with the nursing team and medical team using play to help with distraction and preparation for hospital procedures.

- Identify and detect any fears and anxieties from Children and their families and engage with them to help deal with their feelings/anxieties.
- To create age appropriate daily play activities for children and young people.
- To facilitate distraction and coping strategies for children undergoing painful / invasive procedures
- To engage with children, young people, and their families during their stay in hospital, offer support and help to deal with their anxieties and feelings.
- Accompany child & carer to theatres.

- To be aware at all times of the provision of a healthy and safe environment, in accordance with Trust policy and current legislation
- To be visible, approachable, friendly, and proactive at all times.
- Ensure that toys are cleaned routinely in line with the departments cleaning schedule and infection control policy on Children's Daycare Unit.
- To communicate appropriately with children, young people and their families/carers.
- To assist with setting up play areas, materials, and equipment daily.
- To build relationships with parents, carers, and professionals.
- Be aware of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
- To encourage and support parents to join in play activities.
- Assist with fundraising and networking to raise funds to maintain and replace toys and equipment.
- Assist with the organisation of parties and special events.
