Do you offer excellent customer service, attention to detail and previous business support or administration skills? Here at National Highways, we have an exciting opportunity for you to join as a Programme Support Officer within our Major Projects, Regional Investment Programme (RIP) division.


The purpose of this role is to support and enable the delivery of capital investment projects in the Major Projects directorate.

The broad scope of this role encompasses the delivery and coordination of the project and administrative support to a wide range of internal and external stakeholders to time, quality and within budget.


This role is based at the Guildford Office though some travel may be required across other sites to support projects.


What you'll be leading on:


  • Provide comprehensive project support for project management activities including finance, document control and scheme governance ensuring the accuracy and quality of project data and compliance.
  • Operate many administrative processes, ensuring that these are delivered accurately on time and in line with defined procedures and standards.
  • Enable and support effective information management including the maintenance of highquality project products and records in accordance with National Highways Policies and Procedures and legal requirements.
  • Coordinate highquality responses for customer contacts and ensure correspondence is drafted and completed to the required performance standards for quality and timeliness. Customer contacts and correspondence may include Customer Enquiries, Complaints, and Ministerial Correspondence.
  • Monitor project inboxes to ensure they are managed effectively, distributing, and raising key information with the project team including Assistant Project Manager and Project Manager.
  • Support with project/programme governance and assurance requirements including stage gate assessments, independent audits, and project health checks.
  • Support with the timely preparation of meetings and engagements with internal and external stakeholders, taking accurate minutes/records where required.
  • Assist with project management products including project plans, risk registers, action logs, benefits registers, and stakeholder engagement plans.
  • Develop and sustain effective working relationships with key stakeholders in National Highways and the supply chain.
  • Contribute to the health, safety and wellbeing of colleagues, customers, and other parties by participating in Health and Wellbeing activities throughout the lifecycle of the project.

To be successful you'll need

  • Relevant project and or/programme support skills, knowledge, and experience within a large business.
  • Experience in the use of business information and document management systems.
  • Exceptional organisational skills including managing multiple tasks to deadlines. Experience in answering queries, drafting, and managing correspondence.
  • Experience in customer and stakeholder engagement.
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Good written and verbal communication
  • Knowledge or experience in project and or/programme management. Working with information and reports.
  • Strong collaborator, to gain the involvement and engagement of a wide range of stakeholders
