We are recruiting for an experienced Payroll Officer on a temporary basis to cover sickness. Based Westcliff on Sea, Essex. You will need to be experienced in running Sage payroll. You must be available to start at short notice (within a week)


The purpose of this role is to provide a comprehensive and professional service to all colleagues in relation to Payroll services, using all Payroll systems, ensuring that a timely service is offered.

To work closely with accounts and HR ensuring that Payroll legal and statutory obligations are met.

  • Full responsibility of the payroll function including the processing of the weekly and monthly payroll plus process of pensions.
  • Running a weekly payroll for 250 staff and a monthly payroll for 50 staff
  • Dealing with all payroll functions including pensions, SSP, SMP etc
  • To process weekly expenses for Head Office staff.
  • Daily management of all payroll and pension queries.
  • Generating, printing and exporting payroll information to SAGE payroll on a weekly basis.
  • Manual input and reconciliations of monthly and weekly payroll.
  • Dealing with maintenance of payroll system including tax code changes and SSP, SMP etc. on a weekly basis.
  • Preparation and posting of weekly payroll journal to accounting software.
  • Interface sales invoices from inhouse software to accounting software on a weekly basis.
  • Collation, preparation and issuing of Key Performance Indicator data to be shared with staff.
  • Issuing/processing attachment of earning payments, and ensuring they are processed.
  • To complete tenant references as and when requested.
  • Carry out fortnightly checks to identify any workers who may qualify for a higher rates under the Agency Worker Regulations.
  • Monthly gathering of information from Managers for data collection.
  • Create Attachment of Earnings Reports for the Attachment of Earnings Orders as and when requested by a government body.
  • Create a quarterly report on employee numbers for the Office of National Statistics.
  • Create an annual Gender Pay Gap report.
  • Responsible for changes of personal details on the inhouse system which are reflected on Sage payroll system.
  • Ensure that processes and procedures reflect current practices.
  • Collating and updating the Head Office spreadsheet with accurate salaries, hours and job titles.
  • Responsible for Head Office and Contracted carer workers holiday trackers and processing the approved requests.
  • Attending to payroll queries
Experience of Sage payroll is essential. Excel to intermediate level is also essential.

Working 21-28 hours per week

Hourly rate £15-£16.50 per hour dependent on experience/skills
