Description

To provide on-going Outpatient support to the multi-professional team, by undertaking appropriate duties following assessment and planning by a Registered Nurse or Consultant.

Additionally, to provide support in an Outpatient setting, by undertaking non-nursing and ancillary duties. The post requires cross site working ensuring service needs are met.


We provide integrated hospital and community-based services to around 400,000 people living in East Durham, Hartlepool, Stockton on Tees and surrounding areas including Sedgefield, Easington and Peterlee.


The University Hospital of Hartlepool provides patients with a wide range of diagnostic services and outpatient clinics, day case and low risk surgery.


The University Hospital of North Tees provides emergency and planned medical and surgical care, maternity services and a wide range of diagnostic services and outpatient clinics.

We are delighted to offer this vacancy to join our outpatient team as a Health Care Assistant.

The department facilitates over 30 specialties including minor surgery and procedures and will give you the opportunity to develop your clinical skills and experience assisting the registered nurses and clinicians to ensure our patients are seen in the right place, by the right person at the right time.


Experience or demonstrable knowledge of working in the outpatient department is essential and previous experience in a surgical environment will be an advantage.

Duties include assisting all members of the multi-disciplinary team in providing an excellent service and experience to our patients.


The role includes meeting and greeting patients, chaperoning whilst consultation is in progress, preparing rooms and patients for consultation, preparing notes for clinics, general housekeeping and maintenance of stock.

There is the expectation you will keep your mandatory training up to date.

The post holder will be expected to work across the sites of North Tees, Hartlepool, and Peterlee

Maintains effective communication with patients, carers, relatives and staff.

Accept delegated duties within parameters of capabilities and competencies.

Preparation of patients and treatment areas for direct care, and chaperoning of patients during medical examinations


Have an awareness of the Trust policy relating to risk management, key aspect of risk management specific to their own work environment.

Follow Trust health and safety policies.

Maintain a standard of conduct and dress to sustain public confidence and promote the profile of health care employees.

Contribute to the prevention and management of untoward occurrences

Maintenance of privacy/dignity/confidentiality

Provide care as directed by a Registered Nurse.

Checking/preparation of case notes/x-rays/ diagnostic tests.

Checking and maintaining stock levels.

Assess patient safety with relation to communication, falls risk, mobility and any mental or physical abnormalities. Take appropriate action to ensure patient safety and staff awareness.

To complete outcomes on Trak and cover reception duties as required

7 day working and evening working as per service demand
