The Department of Public Health, Policy and Systems is seeking to appoint an accomplished and highly motivated individual to join an active and thriving academic environment contributing to flagship research and teaching programs run by the Department.


You should have proficiency in sociological or anthropological approaches to public health, reflecting interests in contemporary health challenges and theoretical development, methodological innovation, scholarly co-production and interdisciplinarity.


The post will be embedded within our key departmental theme: social science methodologies research cluster¿ which supports a range of research topics: health and social inequalities; health-environment relations; multi-species research; care and recovery assemblages; the political economy of health and welfare; global public health; health governance, among others.


The theme underpins and aligns with research across the department¿s other research themes - Energy, Air Pollution and Global Health (EAPH); Health Systems Analysis; Non-Communicable Disease [NCD); Prevention and Food Policy; Policy Research on Social Determinants and Health Inequalities.

You will complement and strengthen research expertise and capacity, actively developing collaboration across departmental and institute research priorities.


The post has an active departmental teaching contribution to our successful Masters programs in Public Health (MPH) as well as joining colleagues in providing social science and public health instruction for the undergraduate MBChB medical curriculum.

The post will also provide training, supervision and support to MA and PGR students.

You will have a PhD in Sociology or Anthropology (or cognate discipline, e.g. Science and Technology Studies or Geography).

This is a permanent position, starting 1 June 2023.
