Job Purpose


Main Roles and Responsibilities:

  • The site hygiene strategy is aligned with both the Group and the business unit(s) SHE strategy and objectives.
  • Colleagues within the Hygiene shift have a clear understanding of the strategy and actively participate in delivering objectives towards it.
  • Hygiene staff are trained in Health & Safety matters and training is regularly reviewed.
  • Risk assessments are completed and action plans are in place to minimise risks.
  • Hygiene and Housekeeping, across the site, are aligned with the customer and BRC codes of practice.
  • All members of the Hygiene shift have a clear vision of, and actively participate in, delivering the Hygiene Strategy.
  • Excellent audit performance.
  • Hygiene strategy is embedded crossfunctionally.
  • Meeting all financial targets as agreed within the budget forecast.
  • Effectively communicated PIP (profit improvement plan).
  • Consistently reduce departmental spending through excellent fiscal management without compromising site hygiene standards.
  • Uptodate knowledge of nextgeneration hygiene equipment and methodologies that can be integrated into the site.
  • Has an effective departmental structure in place.
  • Department fully staffed with the agreed percentage of permanent FTE.
  • Promotes a lean, effective and robust structure across areas of responsibility.
  • All hygiene colleagues are fully trained and motivated to an agreed level of skill.
  • The departmental KPI results consistently meet the business unit targets.
  • The Hygiene Team has a clear understanding of all departmental KPI's & targets both in terms of their origin and meaning.
  • The Hygiene Team has a clear understanding of what part they play in ensuring that the KPI's meet the business unit needs.
  • The KPI's consistently beats the business unit targets.
  • Influences the business to ensure that the correct resources are available to maximise KPI results.
  • All training is consistently up to date.
  • The training matrix is consistently reviewed to ensure relevance.
  • There is a clear succession plan in place that reflects current levels of skill.
  • Effective proven succession plan in place.
  • Establishes a network of peers within the group to share best practices.
  • Ensures responses are completed in a timely manner.
  • Promotes celebrating success within the department.
  • Owns the communication of Hygiene activities on their shift.
  • Robust Hygiene meetings attended by a crosssection of departments.
  • Has the Technical Manager's confidence in their ability to deliver the best options for site hygiene.
  • Member of the site HACCP team.
  • Regarded within the business as the 'goto person on site hygiene matters.
  • Leads hygiene innovation for the site.
  • The team openly display a positive nature towards the Hygiene Department.
  • Hygiene operatives are confident about challenging the status quo with respect.
  • The team actively supports and embraces the need for change.
  • All hygiene operatives feel valued and integrated into the wider team.
Required Experience

  • Previous experience within a manufacturing unit in a hygiene Management role.
  • Proven track record of development and engagement with staff
  • Food hygiene and level 3 Food Safety.
  • Ability to communicate with and influence direct reports.
  • Good general IT skills (Word and Excel)
  • Experience with BRC and multiretailer Codes of Practices.
