The Computing & Information Services (CIS) department at Durham University (DU) requires a contractor Test Analyst to join a specific project for a period of approximately 5-6 months.

Hybrid based but travel as required to Durham

The Computing and Information Services department (CIS) provides a variety of IT services to the University.

Many of these services are being replaced with more modern, cloud-based systems which require potential upgrades to existing systems and the implementationof new systems/processes.

CIS is seeking an experienced Test Analyst (TA) with skills and experience of creating, developing and executing test plans and scripts to work exclusively on the Durham On Demand (DUOD) Project.


The TA will report to the Senior Test Manager and is required to support the execution of a series of User Acceptance Test (UAT) sprints for a new Student Web Portal.

This will involve working with appropriate stakeholders, Subject Matter Experts (SMEs)and a third-party vendor who have developed the web portal in line with defined user requirements.


The TA is required to lead a test team through multiple UAT cycles and manage the governance of the test plan in line with the CIS test framework.

Typical tasks include;

  • Manage the execution of test scripts to ensure adequate test coverage has been applied
  • Create manual test scripts, using the defined template, that map to user stories for the new processes being introduced
  • Report bugs to the vendor and ensure turnaround times within Service Level Agreements (SLAs)
  • Identify and create test data needed for each test cycle
  • Monitor and report bug fix cycles and test progress
  • Gather the current test scripts from the relevant stakeholders/experts
  • Change the format of the existing manual test scripts to a standard IT format
  • Use Azure DevOps to store the manual version of the test scripts
  • Identify gaps where information is not available
  • Support the Senior Test Manager in the development of the test strategy for each strand of work
  • Testing on multiple browsers and devices
  • Produce test reports and dashboards for:
  • Bug management and resolution
  • Daily test execution progress
  • Requirements coverage
Skills and Experience


Essential skills and experience:

  • Experience of test management tools (e.g., Azure DevOps, HP ALM/Quality Center, JIRA)
  • Manual testing within Agile projects (Black Box, White Box, Exploratory, Integration, UAT)

Desirable skills and experience:

  • Experience with browser/web automation technologies such as Selenium, Puppeteer, Playwright
  • Track record of executing automated test packs in regression test cycles
  • ISQTB Foundation Certificate in Software Testing

Communication and Teamwork:

  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrable ability to proactively work with team members to ensure the delivery of highquality services
  • Ability to work on multiple activities/workstreams in parallel and adjust priorities as circumstances change
