Salary
£10.50 ph + overnight payment


Hours
36 hours per week

You will be paid for 9 waking hours, plus £20 sleep in allowance per shift. Each member of staff will have a 3 hour rest period during the night. Your duty hours will be 8pm-8am.

Position Summary


This post is under the direction of the Winter Shelter Manager and is responsible for the night time delivery of Gloucester City Mission's Winter Shelter.

The role will require confidence to work with men and women with complex needs, an ability to work as part of a team and a passion for people who are experiencing homelessness.


The post-holder will be working as part of a small team of staff and volunteers, under the leadership of a Team Lead.

They will be required to support volunteers to fulfil various tasks. The focus of a night shift is to create a warm, safe and welcoming environment for guests to sleep. Cases are often complex and require good communication and patience.

This position will require and Enhanced DBS Check

Main duties and responsibilities

  • To deliver the service of the Gloucester City Mission Winter Shelter ensuring it is a safe and secure environment.
  • To lead the team members and volunteers
  • To ensure the health and safety of guests, staff and volunteers
  • To keep accurate records and information each night.
  • Welcome and register guests as they enter, collect relevant data, and monitor wellbeing.
  • Assist in creating and implementing moveon plans for guests under the Team Lead supervision
  • To work as part of a team, including guiding volunteers.
  • To facilitate services such as breakfast and dinner.
  • To maintain a Christian ethos and witness amongst guests and offer to pray with them where appropriate.
  • To lead team and other meetings deemed appropriate.
  • To undertake any training considered appropriate by the organisation and the demands of the post.
  • Other duties commensurate with the post under direction of the Project Manager.
Experience

  • Previous experience in health/social care/community/rehabilitation work is desirable.
  • Knowledge of the key issues involved in homelessness and drug and alcohol misuse is desirable.
  • Experience of supporting volunteers is desirable.
Skills and knowledge

  • An ability to interact with diverse and challenging service users from a variety of backgrounds
  • Knowledge of the key issues involved in the provision of services for people who are homeless and/or misuse substances
  • An ability to talk with people who maybe struggling or chaotic in their lives, and to diffuse challenging situations.
  • Selfmotivated
  • Ability to lead a team setting and create a positive work environment
  • Good verbal skills
  • Computer literate

The Gloucester City Mission Winter Shelter operates night shift and weekend work, throughout the whole winter, supporting people with complex needs.
