Hours:
Mentor Supervisor 20hrs


Days to work:
Monday - Friday (includes day time and evening working)


Main purpose of the role
The Mentor Supervisor will focus on, Mentoring Link Ups and the direct Supervision of Mentors.

The Mentor Supervisor will be responsible direct communication with the Mentee Liaison officer in view of shared responsibility around advocacy and wider support for young person receiving 1.1 support.


Position in organisation
The Mentor Supervisor will report for Supervision and Line Management to The Manager of Mentoring Services


Duties and key responsibilities

Personal responsibilities:


  • To work flexibly to accommodate all mentors this will include evening and occasional weekend work
  • To attend The Island training and equip yourself with the skills to support the service delivery
  • To be punctual and consistent with work hours agreed directly with the Island Manager Mentoring Services
  • To act in accordance with The Island's policies and procedures, especially with regard to health and safety and confidentiality, and to ensure these are implemented in the workplace
  • To commit to the values and goals of The Island
  • To maintain a thorough understanding of all elements of The Island's mentoring service to provide an effective and informed service
  • To work as both part of a team and independently where needed

Operational Responsibilities:


  • To effectively manage and prioritise communication, in person, digital, telephone from both internal and external contacts.
  • To Manage incoming Mentor Applications and conduct interviews, DBS process, Reference Checks and the Initial Induction process
  • To be part of the training of new and existing Volunteer Mentors and have active participation in the training delivery
  • The Mentor Supervisor will be responsible for direct communication with the Mentee Liaison officer to identify suitable matches for individual mentoring relationships.
  • To facilitate Link ups for children and young people to meet the needs of both the mentor and mentee.
  • To conduct 6 weekly Mentor and Mentee check in sessions, where you will be expected to visit direct face to face sessions in the community. To have appropriate follow up as required. This may include home visits, 1.1 supervision, multi agency involvement or support from the wider Island team.
  • To conduct Mentor Supervisions on a 12weekly basis through Group Peer Supervisions
  • To complete appropriate supervisor recordings and ensure they are stored securely and in compliance with the island's guidelines.
  • To share all paper based or electronic paper work with The Island Admin Assistant for appropriate processing on The Island CRM system.
  • To ensure training and development opportunities are given to volunteers on a regular basis
  • To attend 'team meetings' and information sharing sessions that will underpin crucial elements of the work load and to share any safeguarding concerns
  • To liaise and feedback with multi agency professionals/ parents and families in the interest of the young people who are mentored
  • To liaise and facilitate meetings with additional mentoring supervisors who may support the organisation voluntarily or in other paid positions.
  • To provide Duty Cover for The Island Duty when allocated
  • To support with the planning and implementation of route maps required for this role
  • To adhere to the flexi working agreement as set by The Island

Essential Requirements:


  • To hold a Full UK clean driving licence
  • Eligibility to work in the UK and appropriate documentation to identify this
  • Understanding of team work and the importance of effective communication
  • A minimum of 1 years experience in a leadership or a supervisory role
  • A minimum of 1 years experience working with children or young adults
  • A willingness to undertake professional development opportunities

Desirable:


  • A level or above in Children and Young Peoples Workforce; Education/Mentoring/Counselling/Phycology or Social Policy/Practice
  • A range of experience of working with or supporting young people or young adults
  • A understanding through education or working practice of Mentoring and the principles of Mentoring
  • Either a Leadership or Management qualification/ experience in a leadership or management role

Dimensions and limits of authority

  • Shared responsibility is held for internal communication with colleagues, trustees and volunteers.
  • Any changes to practice or adaptations should be discussed with The Island Manager Mentoring Services as part of good practice.

Pay:
£12.40-£12.80 per hour

Expected hours: 20 per week
