Join our vibrant and dynamic Special Education Service to play a key role in improving the lives of SEND children and their families?


The team consists of a Service Manager, two Team Leaders, Annual Review Coordinator and seventeen FTE Education, Health and Care Inclusion Officers (ECHIO's).


The Special Education Service are responsible for administrating the statutory processes for the identification and assessment for children and young people (aged 0-25) with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND).

In addition, the team are responsible for, offering advice and guidance to the individuals and their parents/carers throughout the process.

If required an Education, health and Care plan (EHCP) is produced and, if approved, SES are responsible for sourcing suitable education and managing the plan going forward.

This is a full time, permanent position working 37 hours a week Monday to Friday. We're currently recruiting for one full-time, permanent member of staff however, part-time applicants will be considered.

You'll have flexibility in hybrid working being both office based 2 days a week, at New Parks House and working remotely from home three days a week.


What you'll be doing


Your role will be to establish strong and effective links with families, health, social care, and education services to engage all parties in the Education, Health and Care (EHC) needs assessment process.


Working closely with all involved you'll ensure the young people, and their families views are held at the centre of planning and decision making.

Being creative and flexible you'll empower the families of SEND children to identify their child's individual education, health and care needs and the provision required to meet those needs.

Gathering their aspirations and desired outcomes to devise a one-page profile of the child/ young person which will be used as part of the EHCP process.

You'll provide guidance and advice about the EHCP needs assessment process and offer advice to promote self-directed support.

In addition, you'll keep up to date and detailed records of workings. You'll receive, collect, quality assure and record information throughout the process. Using information gathered you'll create statistical reports where needed.

You'll also highlight any areas of risk to the management team providing feedback to the local authority on any emerging themes or gaps in service provision.


What you'll need


With a strong background of working directly with children and young people, you'll have experience in supporting children and young people with SEND as well as supporting their families while working alongside other relevant agencies.

You'll have knowledge and understanding of the issues SEND children and families face within their day to day lives. You'll have experience of handling conflict and managing sensitive issues to achieve positive outcomes for all those involved.

You'll use your knowledge of person-centred planning approaches and self-directed support to keep the family's views at the centre of planning and decision making.

All while using your knowledge of EHCP process and legislation to maintain high standards of delivery.
