The ROV (Remote Operated Vehicle) team are looking for ROV Superintendent to join them as part of the wider SALMO (Salvage and Marine Operations) department.


  • Our SALMO team is the lead across the Ministry of Defence (MOD) for the provision of marine salvage and emergency response. Our specialists including Master Mariners, Marine Engineers, Naval Architects, Environmental Scientists, ROV (Remote Operated Vehicle) Pilots, AUV (Autonomous Underwater Vehicle) Operators and Divers provide a centre of expertise for subsea activities and marine operations. Our operations are varied and include salvage assistance to damaged surface vessels, location of aircraft on the seabottom, survey of WWII wrecks, towage of warships and submarines, emergency response preparedness exercises and underwater engineering support to resolve defects on Navy platforms at home and overseas. _


The ROV Team delivers discrete outputs within SALMO by using cutting edge commercial ROV technology to provide UK Defence with a deep water salvage capability, as the ROV Superintendent you will be responsible for the safe delivery of ROV outputs.


A SALMO Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) Superintendent is the principal shoreside responsible person for taking ownership and ultimately delivering SALMO's Deep Water ROV Capability.

Ensuring our equipment, maintenance, spares and personnel, both onshore and offshore can meet the requirements of our customers.


This includes the management of SALMO ROV system operations with an offshore team; working closely with the ROV Supervisor, team of Surveyors and Engineers to ensure all ROV equipment is working effectively and customer operational outputs are delivered.

You will liaise with the operations and shore engineering teams alike to ensure the team operates effectively.

Due to security, this role is reserved for sole UK nationals only. Please also note that the successful applicant will be required to undertake Developed Vetting clearance once in the post.


Responsibilities

  • Be accountable as the Equipment Authority and hold the Senior Safety Responsible letter of delegation for the SALMO ROV System
  • Provide engineering support to the ROV acquisition team to support procurement and upgrade activities whether through SALMO or external support partners.
  • Own and maintain the SALMO ROV System Safety Case.
  • Plan of SALMO ROV system maintenance activities, spares management, management of financial inyear allocations and longterm planning of requirements and capability strategy
  • Supplying real time support to the deployed team and acting as stakeholder liaison/Designated Person Ashore during deployments.
  • Generate the annual training/operational schedule in accordance with customer directives.
  • Manage and execute the ROV team training plan and assessment of team competence.
  • Manage the ROV teams evolving infrastructure requirement to deliver a safe building, equipment, and facilities for the ROV team to operate from.
  • Supporting the Department Head in delivering the capability demanded under the Command Acquisition Support Plan with UK Strategic Command

Note:
Though the position is primarily shore based, there are occasions where you will need to deploy with the ROV team

  • You will have demonstrable offshore or marine engineering experience
  • You will have experience leading and working together as part of a team
