Description
Gynaecology commitments would include a general gynaecology clinic and endometriosis clinic with a dedicated session of MDT. A weekly operating list is included in the job plan and where necessary support for operating development provided. Gynaecology Hot Week is covered as a 1 in 12.


Although, this job is dedicated to endometriosis, an obstetric commitment could be accommodated especially in the field of complex Caesarean sections.

Any desires for particular involvement in an obstetric clinic and labour ward can be negotiated.

Emergency (out of hour) commitments covers gynaecology (currently a 1 in 10 rota but under review). An out of hours obstetric commitment can be negotiated. Out of hours work is split with separate consultants on call for obstetrics or gynaecology.

Gynaecology consultants provide emergency and elective assistance for the obstetric team to support complex obstetric surgery.

LTHTR is a teaching hospital serving a local population of 450,000 across Greater Preston, Chorley and South Ribble. The Trust has approximately 4,700 births annually and a level three neonatal unit.


In gynaecology we provide services in benign gynaecology, early pregnancy, endometriosis, urogynaecology, ambulatory, menopause, paediatric, endocrine disorders, vulval conditions and termination of pregnancy.

We are an accredited endometriosis centre. We also provide tertiary gynaecological oncology services for Lancashire and South Cumbria with a specialist team of gynaecology oncologists.


The Trust also delivers regional services in neurosciences (neurosurgery and neurology), plastic surgery, renal medicine, vascular surgery, interventional radiology and hosts the regional trauma centre.

Preston is one of the four bases for Manchester university medical students. We provide academic and pastoral support to over 300 medical students in their clinical years 3, 4 and 5.

We have three well equipped education centres to support undergraduate and postgraduate training.

A number of our team run courses at these sites or have leading positions within the education department (internally & externally).

This is welcomed and any additional training supported.


There is an active and thriving research team giving research opportunities within the NIHR badged on-site Lancashire Clinical Research Facility and involvement in research is actively sought from all the consultants.
